Does exactly what it says it should do, wish it could use batteries.
Provides a very bright and even light that makes tracing easy. I purchased it primarily to help my kids with learning to write (eventually) where you can place sheets of letters on the unit and any old paper (no special paper needed) on top and they can trace away at the letters or all sorts of shapes. You kind of need to tape them down though. 5 stars because it is built like a tank for what it is, does exactly what it says it will do. I wish we got a bigger size but they get pricey. I would have been happier if there was a battery option, it can be inconvenient to need to use it only near an electrical outlet. I understand that they sell some external battery pack for use with it, but honestly there is no reason why they couldn't have added a spot for AAA batteries in the body and even if they only lasted a few hours that would have been fine.

great slide/negative viewer
So far, so good. Powered up right out of the box with a nice even light. Plenty bright for my purpose, which is to look at slides and negatives for ID and flaws, etc. I am not sure what the color temperature is but if I'm taking a scan into Lightroom or similar software that gets adjusted anyhow. It has a nice cloth cover-bag and is a good size for portability. The LED lighting runs very cool and also allows the unit to be fairly thin. Build quality is good, not perfect, but good enough to not make me drop a star. Saves me from trying to build my own box, for which trying to find components was getting to be a pain. Happy to be able to find this unit and save myself a lot of trouble, and maybe even some $$$$ as it was beginning to look like I would spend more building my own box.

Great little box!
I adore this box! It's very slim and a nice weight, not too heavy but not light enough to where you feel like you bought it at the dollar store. The case is soft and fits this thing like a glove, which was really a selling point for me because I plan to use this for hand drawn animations and will be toting it from home to the studio. It comes with everything shown and is a very sophisticated-looking tool. I tested it with three layers of computer paper, bristol board, (inexpensive) watercolor paper with ink, watercolors, and pencil and I could see everything just fine irregardless of overhead lighting. The light on the box itself is nice and cleanly bright without hurting your eyes. A wonderful product that I strongly recommend. I have yet to test it over a long period of use, but I have high hopes for it. I only wish it had a built-in battery that you can charge while plugged in, like a cell phone!

Small light pad great for tracing.
I use this light pad for tracing embroidery and quilting designs. Nice and light in weight with good lighting. Very well made.

I am not sure how to feel about this purchase.
I am giving this product 4 stars because of mixed feelings after getting it. Frugal side of me tells me that I can't touch a good "photography" light box to view film at this price. The stingy side tells me but this is for tracing drawings, how hard can that be? Fashionable side of me says this has really nice brushed aluminum frames. The practical side tells me it's those cheap quality assembly that the panels don't even fit snugly (the gaps between the pad surface and the borders are all uneven). Appreciating side of me says this is a pretty cool LED illumination that's instantly on and lights up the surface evenly, the critical side noticed that when I shake it hard left to right something moves inside. Other than that, I have it on for an hour straight and it is still working with no hot spots like some others mentioned. I guess you would really notice something like that if you were copying but just for viewing I think it's fine. The back of the panel also shows minor tarnishing on the aluminum. My conclusion is I will live with it. It works and does what I need, I am not looking to show off this like an iPad, and it's not too expensive.
