New York: An Illustrated History (Revised and Expanded)

Bought this for a Sociology class. Cheaper than the college bookstore, easier than the library and no worries about return dates. A companion to the Burns NYC documentary series, and a great reference that saved hours of reviewing videos over and over.

It's significantly more extensive, and it has lots of terrific photos & illustrations. Also, there's a lot more written material which is all very interesting.

This is WAY too heavy! It should have been published in two volumes. I loved the video series, and I'm sure I'd love this book if I could stand to hold it for more than two minutes.

Wonderfully illustrated book, and I learned a whole lot from it, and passed it on to others so they can now enjoy. Tell tehm to have a sturdy bookcase though...

Great history with pictures of New York! Love it!

Needed for school

This takes a while to get through, but just about EVERYTHING in it is interesting. As a NY native it's interesting to find out how all the things I see and hear about every day came into existence and changed over the years. It really is the greatest city and state on the planet.

A must read for all New York City aficionados. Wherever your interest in the city lies, this book provides the foundations and stepping stones to develop it further. It provides fascinating insights and as such us a must read. Excellent value for money.

We have bought this for our son for Christmas. It seems very informative with lots of photos. We read the reviews and were not disappointed. In fact it's better than we thought it would be, we're sure our son will be pleased with this as he loves New York and is interested in its history. The book arrived promptly and well packaged.
