The value and insight offered by Gurnall in these pages are perhaps incalculable because of the depth and breadth of the spiritual life... and one of the sad side effects of the modern gospel in conjunction with American affluence is the lack of acknowledgement much less sound assistance in the undertaking the balancing of perpetual tension between grace and fallen nature in the duality of sanctification and oppressed perception. The amenity of Grace can become dismissive of it's gravity... in the opposition to the conflict for which Grace is the antidote. The addition of sentient confrontation to the contention bring a welcome gratitude for this kind of therapy.Thank God someone in contemporary times had the present and conviction to compile and preserve this for modern consumption. An antidote is not inoculation but rather the management of such adversity. Any modern Christian unfamiliar with this means of Grace is suffering from unseen depravity that is the anaesthetization of ignorance. And the dangers of what one doesn't acknowledge is the attack of what one doesn't know.Please get this for your own good!

Some of the daily entries are more poignant than others, perhaps due to the updated language?Overall I like & appreciate the guidance and scriptural reminders this book offers for every day life.

Of all the materials I've used to guide a men's study this may be the best. There is an unrelenting offensive being waged against men in the world today and this material speaks to the heart of what being a Christian and a man is all about. We must be courageous in our walk with Christ and this material helps to define what that walk looks like from a Christ-Centered perspective.

This is a truly fantastic book. I particularly enjoyed the entry on unrighteous gain ("Wealth and Righteousness") but there are so many other gems here too. Gurnall strikes me as having been a great man. Quite uncompromising in some ways yet at other times merciful and encouraging. Highly recommended.

Just a big version of 'the word for today' or one of those daily readings you get from UCB radio, a bit like the famous 'everyday for Jesus' readings. Not quite what I expected.
