Some of the stones are small - marble sized so this may not good for kids with a habit of popping things into their noses or mouths. AND the dust will color their hands/fingers like chalk - I have cream colored everything so navigating my little guy to the bathroom to wash his hands was a task but worth it for the amount of time this kept him engaged and busy. He loved learning about each of the gem/crystals.

She couldn't actually crack open the "rocks" with the lightweight tools provided. That little mallet didn't begin to have enough weight to help the chisel crack them open. Ended up using a rubber mallet!

My son loves digging these things up. Doesn’t matter What’s inside. Didn’t keep him busy for long (he’s 9) but he enjoyed it while it lasted Abe’s nope he has all of these cool stones.

My granddaughter loved this set! She is 5 and loves excavating. The gems were such a bonus for her. She, also, enjoyed trying to match the gems to their pictures. Some of the stones did not look much like the picture, but that is what you get because no two stones are the same. Looking to buy her another set!
