Q: What is the power consumption of this?

Bluetooth uses remarkably little power. A MPPT 75/15 controller takes about 20mA when idle (no PV input), about 21mA when the dongle is attached, and about 22mA when scrolling through data. How much of that last mA is the dongle and how much is the controller is unknown. So figure on about 25mAH per day, or less than 1.0 AH per month.

Q: If i use this blue tooth device i assume that i can't use the round monitor provided with the bmv-702?

The display on the BMS-700 or BMS-702 is always available, and the dongle is an add-on to that, so yes, you can use both independently. This dongle also works with the Victron MPPT controllers, which can have either the wired display (MPPT Control) or Bluetooth connected, but not both.

Q: will i need this bluetooth dongle for my victron solar charger to operate? what will i be missing if i do not have this dongle?

Your Victron device should do what it needs to do stand-alone. All the dongle does is port the data from the device to your smart phone, tablet, or computer. My Victron 700 battery monitor works just fine stand-alone. I like being able to check the health of my RV battery system from my smart phone. Example; Rig hooked up, Fridge on DC, sitting in driver's seat, engine running, check to make sure RV charging circuit is working properly before heading out. Once again, all this thing does is pass data to your Bluetooth device.
