An excellent instructional video, no matter what the subject
You wouldn't think a video would work here, but it does. It does it very well. The production values are high--the set is pleasant w/o being over staged, the sound is clear, and the lighting w/o shadow. The camera never calls attention to itself. As much as possible, you feel as though you are in the company of the Sensei. An excellent instructional video, no matter what the subjectSensei Michael Hodge is a natural instructor. His narration is articulate and fluid, and he speaks w/o hesitation or verbal tics. His 25 minute class might have two or three cuts in its entire length, lending itself to the feeling that he is there with you. His attitude is calm, thoughtful, and supportive. The instruction moves a pretty good clip--there is a lot of instruction here, but all of it is presented clearly, at different angles and speeds. I'm a complete beginner, but I never feel overwhelmed.

Well worth it for anyone interested in martial arts.
I've been very interested in martial arts for as long as I can remember, but classes are expensive and living in the city can make it hard to get back and forth from classes. I started searching online and came across Global Martial Arts University and discovered the Ultimate Bo course. I have to say, I'd never considered studying bo staff as a martial art, but I am glad that I ended up signing up. The instruction is very clear and easy to follow and the art itself is great. There is a very healthy mix of traditional and modern technique. There is even a very practical self-defense aspect to it. The dvd set is exactly what you'd get from the online course, it's all the same material. Honestly, for the cost it's great. There's lots of bo staff stuff out there, but this is the only complete bo staff course I've ever come across.
