I purchased this dual action sander because of other products I own from this brand. I was disappointed because I opened the box, removed the sander from the plastic bag it was in, and the handle fell to the floor because they never installed the nut onto the machine screw that holds it on the sander. I know it didn't fall off because the nut would be in the plastic bag. It wasn't in the box either. Obviously this is poor QA at production level. I'll have to find the proper size nyloc nut so it will stay on. Minor issue but shouldn't have to do anything to this product other than install an air fitting, lubricate and use.

I am doing some auto restoration work and barrowed a couple of similar DA sanders from family and friends to verify this type of sander would meet my needs. After research I picked this sander. So far it works really well and was much quieter than the other brands I tested. This was not the cheapest, but you could definitely spend more on other brands. Ultimately, this is a great value.

I expected IR to provide top quality. Barely has any power running on 95 psi, and hardly runs at 1000 rpm. Often needs to be spun by hand to get it spinning. Sometimes continues running after the trigger is let go of. Air can be heard leaking from motor/valve body. Made in china, and complete junk. It is sad to see the quality of an old American Icon, decline to levels lower that what would be expected of HFT. The broken one I replaced, that had a seized bearing, had more power and spun faster than the new IR product.

I bought two of these to replace the POS 2601 Ridgid 5" random orbital sanders. Since 2010 Ridgid Tools are built in a cheaper part of China and their sanders are complete crap. I am lucky to get three months use out of them before the motors burn up. Prior to 2010 their sanders would last at least two years in our woodshop and could hold up to the heavy use and abuse of my students. Anyway it came as a 6" sander but I trimmed 1" off the padded disk to make it a 5" one. I then attached 4" wide velcro strip so we can affix our H&L 5" sand paper. The students are using them to sand their end-grain cutting board/butch blocks. The sanders holding up well and look to be a prefect replacement for the now sad Ridgid 5" sanders.

I can't fairly rate this tool because my 5 hp/60 gallon compressor could not deliver enough air to run it. I found elsewhere (not on Amazon) that this tool is rated for 17 cfm -- far more than my compressor can keep up with. I thought the 60 gallon tank would allow me to work a bit and then wait to catch up, but it did not -- even after I changed to 1/2" air hose straight from the tank, I could not utilize the full surface of the pad. Edge sanding just doesn't cut it!

DIYER PLEASE READ FIRST! IF YOU DONT HAVE A HIGE COMPRESSOR DONT BUY Great sander, lightweight, quiet, good control, had to sell it to a friend due to air consumption. One of the most vital pieces of info, CFM, is somehow not listed in the description. So really just wasted my time, not impressed with the seller.

It's not absolute top of the line, but with the right consumables this thing is perfectly fine. I've used it to buff off decals and get to bare metal. It's quiet, it runs nice, and it feels solid and sturdy. There's not much more to say. Happy with it so far.
