A very good Atlas focusing on Manhatten island which is of course New York city. The maps are very good and in chronological order. Everything is depicted in this book, Slums, Engineering projects, Racial and ethnic composition, and even Mafia hits as well as NY gangs and the areas they controlled. I am writing a novel that takes place in part in Manhattan in the late 1800s. This book is so full of the information I need. I've lived in Brooklyn and Manhattan for about 35 years. I thought I knew a lot about their history, but I am learning so much more. The reading is not weighed down, there are plenty of maps and illustrations. The book, The Historical Atlas of New York City is a wonder investent.

Fairly decent. Some of the map images are blurry or are inverted. You’d think that a city of such importance would have an exemplary historical atlas. This atlas is nowhere near as good as Seashole’s Atlas Of Boston History.

The city is a living entity that changes by the minute. This book helps catch those moments.

A good overview but overly verbose to convey simple information. Lots of veering off stream of consciousness comments and historical references that were not explained.

Beautifully written and illustrated. Easy to go from one era to the next. A wonderful introduction to my favorite city in the world!

This is a fantastic book. It tells one so much about New York's development. I love it!

I really enjoyed this book. The use of maps to illustrate historical stages in the development of New York was a brilliant idea & brought to life what might otherwise have been quite hard work.

new-york: des rues toutes droites (sauf une), des quartiers carrés, un paquet d'arbres au milieu... pas fan des atlas, new-york, de par sa composition géométrique se prête merveilleusement bien à un voyage par la géographie. retrouver les formes de la ville inspirées par l'histoire m'a beaucoup plu. (à complèter avec un livre sur les meilleurs burgers :-))
