I have snails and isopods and so far, this meets my needs. There was no expansion because it's a loose mix. It's very airy and fluffy and it looks natural like a deep woods rotting forest floor with a fresh wood scent. I can see my isopods deep in the substrate tunneling so the quality isn't packy and it is draining well which should help with the mold that occasionally pops up. The Isopods really love this stuff and bonus is it's going to be so easy to find the snail eggs. That is why I wanted something lighter than the ABG mix I previously used. I got the small bag and only needed half of it for my tiny 10 gallon set up when I did a 3/4 soil swap, so I think I got money's worth. It was totally affordable. You can see my snails exploring it for the first time in the photo. It has a very natural look. It does come layered in the bag and a previous reviewer said that because of that, they had to use the whole bag. I didn't find this to be the case. It was layered, but I opened the bag and mixed it easily because the bag is not full and leaves plenty of room to mix and reseal. You can also dump it into the box it's shipped in and mix it and put the remaining mix into a bag or box for storage. Anyway, I didn't have to use the whole bag just because it was layered.

Got this for the bottom of my silkworms tank. Nice and fluffy though make sure to mix as all the bark will go to the top. DO NOT order with anything else. There is a hole. Everything in that box will be covered in dirt. Best price I could find with comparison. Have a ton left so probably going to see how it does with growing plants.

I used this in my paludarium. The critters seem to enjoy it! No complaints.

Great quality for sure, but I really can't understand why it is not premixed. If I wanted to make my own mix I would buy the components separately. Don't get me wrong, I mix soil all the time and I like to get my hands dirty, I just don't know why you would buy a bag of unmixed soil.

This product was exactly what I needed to redo my crested gecko cages! A balanced mixture of moss, charcoal, substrate and cocoa coir. Holds moisture well.

Must pre-mix it yourself prior to putting fit into an enclosure. Seems to be good quality!

I used it in my insect terrarium and the soil seems decent quality and airy, only issue is that the soil does not come pre-mixed, the components are separated in layers in the bag. I did not realize before starting to pour it in my tank so had to put in the whole bag, mix it by hand and then remove the extra soil. But others seems good 👍🏻
