Q: Hello, do you think the lock can work if the "wind" exerts a force of 300 lb on the door?

Yes, I installed it on my 17 foot heavy metal gate and it works good. Sometimes it may not unlatch with a heavy wind blowing on the gate when opening/unlocking.

Q: The cord is too short. Can I use 16 gage landscaping wire to extend wire 2ft?

Yes, you can use any size wire from about 20-22 AWG or larger and it will work fine. I had this same problem and did some testing. I ended up extending the wire by 20 feet or so with 20 AWG wire. No problem. The rated Voltage is 12VDC @1.5A or 24VDC @ 2.8A, but this is way more than you need. Here are my measurements: Minimum engage voltage: 6 VDC @ 0.8A. Once the solenoid was engaged, it stayed on until I dropped down to only 0.3VDC. I wouldn't suggest using it at only 6V because of temperatures variation and aging. But you should feel comfortable adding as much wire as you need as long as the voltage at the splice is at least 9V during engagement.
