They seem reliable. Updated!
Two fresh water dives and one salty Gulf of Mexico dive and they are still working great. No problems. I have two. One for my flashlight and one for my knife.Update: I have now been using these for 1.5 years. I just ordered another one for my pony tank regulator. I also just removed the steel/painted band that connects the d-ring to the retractor as they have started to rust out. I cut the same length piece of metal from a stainless steel hose clamp. Drilled the holes out and remounted them. The spring in the retractor still works perfectly. I still use these in salt water 95% of the time.

Used to be a great product as T reign company...Seems to break now as boomerang...twice!!

Cable stretches too far even with modest pull
The cable is weak. Would be a 5 star if the cable didn't have such easy pull

Fabric string instead of steel cable
Unfortunately, even though the loop too hook items to is made of metal cable, the actual retractable line is not. They definitely still feel relatively solid and definitely have the resistance levels they claim but I would have thought for the price and the description of quality - not to mention the fact that they use steel cable on the loop portion - it would have been steel cable. Like I said they still seem pretty solid however with my use they probably wouldn’t last a month. Also the largest sized one has a locking mechanism so you can lock it while extended etc. which is something I guess.

Horrible - detached (and lost) on the first dive
This product is horrible. I secured it to my BCD (dive vest), and also double checked that it was secure before entering the water,. Later, I reached for the tool that I had attached to this device...only to find everything was gone. So I lost this retractable tether that I just purchased, plus the dive light I had attached to it. Horrible product.
