Yes, I bought it for running. It works well. I clipped it to my shirt/top so I could hear the beats.

does it have Volume Control? How would you describe the Sound (click vs electic beep)?

It has a volume control wheel on the side. It goes from completely silent to surprisingly loud for such a small device. Here is a recording of the sound from the prior model the DM50 which sounds incredibly similar, if not the same. http://www.metronomes.net/dm50.wavThe sound is definitely more like an electric beep.

Is it possible to mute the sound and just have a light flash to show the beat?

Yes, it is possible... There's a small volume knob on the side that you can adjust but the light keeps flashing no matter what volume it's at.

Bought this for pacing my cadence during running. I use the lowest setting of volume to run on quiet trails and it works perfect. It can be adjusted to very loud, so should be no problem using it in traffic areas. I highly recommend it for this purpose.
