These are great! Highly recommend. If you use moongel on toms or snares, stop and use these snareweights instead. They're much better and allow the drum to sound more true to the sound. Plus they look nicer.

Great product.

Not a fan of muting my drums at all. I would rather choose the right head and keep the drum open. For my ear, beats Moon-Gel or Zer-o Rings hands down. To my ear, they change the fundamental characteristics of the drum sound, making it flat and dead, taking the material you chose for the drum shell out of the equation. I've never made them work to my liking. But these are different. They don't deaden the drum and allow it to breathe while killing some overtones and ringing. Very pleasing to my ear and sound sensibilities I rarely use it, but I'm happy to have it.

I was skeptical. I mean, how many muffling products do we need? I always have a roll of gaff tape and a package of Moon Gel handy so why would I need this? I dont in all reality, but I'm glad I have it. This is a very well-made ingenious product that is easy to use. I love that you have four different options with the Snareweight. I feel like it helps save time vs. cutting a gel or tape, adding more gel or tape, etc. Get one, especially if you do studio work where time is of the essence and the producer or engineer want different sounds on the fly; you'll be glad you have it.

It works well enough as a dampener, reducing ringing and cutting out a bit of high end without choking the drum. A few things to be aware of: 1) folding the side flaps over to reduce the amount of dampening doesn't appreciably change the sound of the drum, at least it didn't for me on the snare I purchased this for (maybe it matters when recording, but to my ears, the difference was too small to matter); 2) when folding the side flaps, it can be a bit challenging to get the magnets to hold them in place sometimes, particularly the second fold; 3) the clip is very tight, takes a bit of work to put on, and cannot accommodate wood hoops of any kind. I guess they were trying to minimize the amount of space it occupied, but having some levers to squeeze the clip open (like a binder clip) would make things easier. In fact, you could save yourself the high cost and make your own with a binder clip and a scrap of leather or thick cloth, albeit without the magnets (but I doubt most people even need the ability to change the amount of dampening, and again, the change was practically negligible anyway). Also, I wonder if there would be any benefit to finishing the edges of the leather?

The end of MoonGell and duct tape. This is a great invention. Some rooms make it impossible to not add something to a snare drum to dial it in. This solves a lot of problems. 3 different levels of muffling and you can flip it into an off position without taking it off. I have them on all of my snares and even added them to my toms just in case. The black leather will leave a mark on the drumhead if that is a concern for you. I love it and woulkd recommend to any drummer.

Snareweights are more expensive than other tone control options, but holy crap do they work. I put this one on my floor tom and I'm very happy with the sound. You can flip it up to compare hits with and without it. There's no question it's doing it's job. It can pop on and off easily to move it to other drums. It leaves no marks or stains. Other than the price, there's really no downside.

I love these things. Bought one for each of my tom drums and two for my snare. I've tried every kind of muting -- various kinds of tape, zero rings, towels. I've found that these work the best by far. The M1b is great -- it doesn't provide as much dampening as the other snareweights. I actually prefer a little bit of the ringing overtones on my snare, they allow for the snare to be a little bit more sensitive, both acoustically and touch, so the M1b works great for this purpose. It's also nice to be able to adjust it on the fly.

Where to start... I’ve been a user of Snareweight’s products for a few years now. It started with a Snareweight #4 that I ordered on a whim, looking for a quick solution to taming snare drums on gigs where there is a house drum set or back line kit. I was thrilled when I first tried it as it’s super fast to apply, very versatile with its different inserts and it doesn’t choke the drum out. It’s very rare that I play without it now. A couple of years later I ordered a few M1s to use on toms. I was looking for something that wouldn’t leave grease marks all over the skins (Moongel) and was easy to apply and take off. The M1s were perfect with the magnets that allow you to adjust how much dampening you want. Again, they didn’t choke the drums out, they just took the edge off of the high overtones on the toms. Fast forward again and I’ve just ordered and received a set of the M1b’s, and they’re fantastic. A little more beefy and a little more surface area than the M1s, they again take the edge off of the overtones just right. I played a gig today with them on some deeply tuned toms (13, 16, 18) and they worked beautifully. I get comments everywhere I go about how great the drums I’m playing sound, and that’s largely attributed to the Snareweight products I’m using all the time. They are invaluable in allowing me to fine tune drums wherever I’m playing. Mat provides some of the best customer service around and the quality of workmanship is second to none.
