Installation details
This is more or less the same as what I wrote in the Q&A section. From the photos on the product page, the splash guard "ear lobes" are supposed to face downwards. If one considers the "V" notches in the shoe surface to be arrowheads, they should point towards the direction from which the rim is coming at the shoe. One can roll the bike forward a bit to identify this direction. This is my best guess only. It seems to me that this orientation would deflect water away from the shoe/rim interface. These two conditions dictate which shoe is left and which is right. The washer can go on the inside of the caliper to allow the shoes to be worn down all the way to their wear line without the caliper rubbing on the tire. This is a bit of a butterfingers installation but one could stick the washer to the shoe with gum or glue to make it easier to get the bolt into the threaded hole in the shoe. Hope this helps! I am not sure, and the shoes do not come with instructions nor R/L stamped on them. So you are on your own. Go easy at first if using as front brake so as to get a feel for whether you could be thrown over the handlebars by too sudden a stop. This happened to me once with caliper brakes that had a mechanical (not cable) linkage. In my experience caliper brakes work less well in the rain, sometimes by quite a lot. This is less evident with aluminum rims compared to steel.

Great value
Great value for the more traditional cyclist who doesn't really have the want or need to move over onto disc brakes. They arrived in quick time and a little tinkering later they were on my bike and ready to go.

Loud & squealy.
Started squealing loudly during a damp ride and haven't stopped, even though they've had plenty of time to dry out. I will be replacing them with something else.
