I like this lens more than my 85mm 1.8 lens!
I just received the lens two days ago, but the images I have taken with it are wonderful. Got some great portrait shots of my wife, but she didn't want me to post them. After having used this lens the past two days, I've sold my Sony 85mm f/1.8 lens. Let me share with you why. Regarding the Sigma lens:1. All metal construction and metal hood. 2. Two different caps (one is cool and is magnetic). 3. sharper image corner-corner until about f4, then they are more or less equal. 4. physical aperture dial. 5. In my opinion, better AF. 6. good character and wonderful bokeh.Yes, it is true that the Sony lens opens up to f/1.8, but I find the bokeh sort of jagged, harsh, and less pleasing. Plus, the Sony lens just seems to lack character and is more sterile in its rendering. And it's a more plastic construction. It does however, have a custom button on it which is cool. I already have one lens that is an f/1.4 when needed, but don't use it very much. But everyone will have a different opinion and different uses and different lenses in their kit. So my opinion is purely subjective to my needs and wants. I can certainly see where some (based upon their kit, needs and shooting style) might prefer the 85 1.8. There is no question that it is a wonderful lens that in some ways is compatible to a more expensive lens. Plus, I rarely shoot, even portraits wider than f/2.5, so like I said, everyone is different.

Beautifully designed compact lens with a special optical rendering
I have several lenses in this focal range including the sony 90mm macro lens. This lens is the most compact. The sigma I series lenses have a designer feel to them & their optics & rendering have a special rendering in the out of focus fall off - colors - contrast etc. Though it is a f2.8 lens the MFD is half the distance of other 85mm lenses. This allows one to get closer in a discrete way. However it is not a macro lens and the AF at very close distances tends to hunt. However the DMF is a joy to use. I use it on the sony a7r4 (61mp) and the lens gives great sharpness & detail.

Obiettivamente perfetto

A(Auto 本体側で絞り設定)からF22に知らずに回っていたことがあった。
