What are the 2 engravings on the front of the utensils?

If by engravings, you mean the pattern like it is in the photo. They appear as bamboo stems. There are no letter engravings. This is a beautiful set, well made, and very heavy which I like. You can tell they are solid metal. I bought a set back in 2004 and I am still using them. Except for wear from daily use, they are as good as new. I highly recommend.

Can forks be purchased only?

If you’re looking for forks only, you can find these at Cost Plus World Market. If you don’t have one in your area, see online. Hope this helps.

It's a butter knife and it's slightly serrated. You can cuts off things with it. There is no steak knife.
