Permatex 80037 Valve Grinding Compound, 3 oz., White

Mountain trailhead parking review while the engine cools. My old Subaru started idling rough, so i grabbed this Permatex valve grinding compound instead of rushing to a shop. The texture feels gritty but controllable, so I could work slowly and not chew things up. I used it to lap two sticky valves on a Saturday morning, then drove straight to a hike. No weird noises, smoother idle, and better pull on the climb to the pass. The tube squeezes easy, and it seals tight so it didn’t leak in my toolbox on the dirt lot. I’m glad it comes in a small size because i won’t use tons, just occasional repairs. One tip, keep a rag handy, the stuff loves to cling to your fingrrs.

Works well for my hand valve grinding on some old 1600 beetle heads. Gets nice and fine after a minuit of grinding Put a bit on, spin and tap. Clean. Inspect, reapply and go till happy

Permatex is a great product, does the job

Followed the instructions I found online (removing the wheel covers, swapping the gear situation and putting it back together to reverse the rotation of the rotary mower) Sharpens nicely though I do recommend you use gloves as it does say its a carcinogen and I understand this compound is a bunch of tiny shards of metal, please protect your fingers, you only have one set of hands. I was under the impression that this was a powder that needed to be mixed with water to use (as it suggested a mouth mask and eye protection) but its already a wet paste ready to be smeared on the blade so not much risk of inhaling unless you leave it to dry out. Idk about other uses but for sharpening a rotary blade push mower (non-gas) it works perfectly
