I've not read another author before or since that nails the male point of view the way Chase does. The sharp sarcasm, the sexually charged monologues, the raw masculinity that bleeds from every word and every thought, is what makes this series so damn delicious. But even more poignant than the voice she gives Jake Becker is the seamless manner in which the author weaves the heavy with the light, the humor with the heartbreak throughout this unputdownable novella. Sidebarred had me laughing aloud, had my heart bursting with joy and love for all that these characters have become and where they're going in this novella. But woven through the romance and the comedy are stark reminders of how Chelsea and Jake came to be and all that's been lost. Peppering this edition are both painful memories of the past and paralyzing fears for the future. This story tugs at the heartstrings, simultaneously drawing laughter and tears, and culminating into a wholly satisfying ending that made me want to go back to the beginning and read the entire Legal Briefs series all over again. Jake Becker truly is the BEST kind of man. I didn't think it was possible, but I fell even harder in love with him in this novella than I already was. He's obsessed with sex and he curses too much and he's sarcastic and inappropriate and vulgar. But HE. IS. GOOD. He loves with his whole heart unconditionally. He's an affectionate, passionate husband. He is the ideal parent, the dad that guides without judgement, the dad that talks to his kids and listens and reminds them they're free to be themselves but that he'll always be there. Jake is the guy that you still can't really believe stepped into this role as an insta-dad, yet there's no denying that he was so obviously made for THIS. This series is my crack. It's so sexy and so funny and so honest. I sniff these books out from months away and I crave and long for my next fix until I manage to get my grubby hands on them at which point I devour them eagerly. Sidebarred lived up to every ounce of anticipation and expectation I had. I just want to get lost in these characters, in their crazy unexpected antics, in their addictive banter, in the undeniable love that exists between every single one of them. Friends, lovers, spouses, parents, children, colleagues... these characters in every possible dynamic bounce off each other and feed off each other and live to antagonize each other and they love fiercely and passionately and they make me laugh. I can't articulate my love for Jake and Chelsea, Stanton and Sophia, Brent and Kennedy, their evolving families, the ever changing dynamics between them all, without blabbering incoherently. So I hope you get my point. The Legal Briefs series is a decadent addiction, and the potency of the romance and sensuality, humor and heartwarming emotions bursting from these pages are the deliciously satisfying taste I crave every single time. Sidebarred is the perfect addition to this series. This bittersweet farewell left me smiling with contentment and a satisfying sense of closure, but also ensured I'll be rereading this series again and again. Review: TERRIFIC ENDING - Jake and Chelsea are my favorite couple from the Legal Briefs books and so I was so happy to be able to read this book. Jake is his usual hot alpha self and Chelsea is adorable and spunky as always. The kids are funny and the most important thing is that there is and will always be so much love within this family. This is a quick read novella, but it is utter perfection. If you have read Sustained which is Jake and Chelsea's book then you know you have to get this book and read it because you want to know what is going on with this family. If you have not read Sustained then you want to read that book first to find out how Jake and Chelsea meet and come together to become this amazing family. Sustained is a fantastic book and you will fall in love with Jake and Chelsea as I did. Then you will understand that Sidebarred: A Legal Briefs Novella is a not to be missed.

A nice epilogue to the main series
Sidebarred was an amazing read and a nice ending to the Legal Briefs series. Jake Becker’s life changed forever the day he met Chelsea and her six orphaned nieces and nephews. Now married for several years, Chelsea and Jake’s lives couldn’t be better. But when Chelsea gives Jake news that could change everything, nothing will ever be the same. This novella takes place over the course of a year plus an epilogue set seventeen years later. The main focus of the story is on Chelsea and Jake as well as the kids. I loved getting to see Chelsea and Jake settled into their lives with the kids. Both of them are fantastic parents and the kids are just as wonderful as I remember them being when I read Chelsea and Jake’s book, Sustained. One thing I loved is that Chelsea and Jake’s relationship is just as hot as I remember and I loved the scenes where they managed to sneak some time to be alone. In addition to scenes with Chelsea and Jake, we also revisit the other two couples of the series, Sophia and Stanton plus Kennedy and Brent. I loved getting to see all of the couples again well into their happily ever afters. The characters in this series really are fantastic, so it’s nice getting to spend a little more time with them. Overall I’m really glad I read Sidebarred and got a glimpse of the future for the couples of the series. I highly recommend this series if you’re looking for a steamy contemporary romance series.

An Fantastic Ending to a Fantastic Series
Loved, loved, LOVED this book!!!!! This series was my first by this author, and it made me a fan of her work. The characters were all so different but real and honorable. There wasn't one I loved more than the others, because they were all different and loveable in their own way.my love of all the characters from the series is why I loved this book. We got to see everyone. Yes, it is Jake's and Chelsea's story, but the reader gets the updates on everyone, and the epilogue was just what I needed to know for these kids. Additionally, I loved the writing. There were so many sentences that I underlined about marriage and family that just spoke to me, and that is what good writing is. It should speak to the reader and this story did. It was an amazing ending to and equally amazing series! I can't wait to see what is next!

Technically this was a longish epilogue that I paid for, but really, every word on this book is worth it...for those who read Jake's story, this is the icing on the cake (you get to see how they are faring 17 years later) and you get a peek at everyone else's lives too...must read for the fans... For adults only

Having thoroughly enjoyed this series, I was so excited to read this novella about Jake & Chelsea with updates about the whole gang. It more than surpassed my expectations..Emma writes books that stay in your head and characters that will steal your Kindle heart. Funny, passionate, hilarious banter, sweet and sexy. This is the perfect read to finish the series. Oh, but I could read more......

Perfect ending to this awesome series. I absolutely fell in love with Jake & loved revisiting Jake, Chelsea & their brood through his eyes. I laughted & I cried along with them. This series is so well written that you feel the characters as if they are living breathing people. I absolutely adored the McQuaid kids Raymond starts to whistle the Darth Vader theme from Star Wars. As I stand and follow Chelsea toward the kitchen, Rosaleen sings, “Someone’s in trouble.” “And for once, it’s not me,” Rory points out. “Take note, people.” Well done Ms Chase, will now need to read some of your other works
