Some say that if you are dosing the water column that the Caps aren't necessary. Some say to use them with deep rooting plants like Swords and Crypts and Dwarf Sag, etc. I happen to squirt the Thrive+ in my tank twice a week and if and when I first plant a plant that has roots, I usually bury a Root Cap to jump start the roots. Depending on how deep your substrate is and what kind this and other root tabs can leach out into your water column and if your dosing ferts in your water column you have potential for algae breakouts.
