Sketch Your Stuff: 200 Things to Draw and How to Draw Them Paperback – December 1, 2016

I can't believe this book hasn't gotten more attention. It's the best sketching book for beginners I've ever used. Even an instructor wanted it for her class. There's tons of sketching books available, but so much is focused on urban sketching, and the artist's styles start looking the same: thin, spiderish hasty sketches with some watercolor thrown on.Jon's book has a warmth and friendliness to it. It's a nice balance of B/W and color. It has everything you need to know to start drawing and is packed with examples and clear simple instructions. Even the paper it's printed on is special--beautiful muted tones, no harsh glaring white, nice thick texture. It's lovely and unique from a graphic arts point of view.Just keep in mind, no one book is going to make you able to draw well. I think beginners (me included) get frustrated and blame the book one is using and then continue the hunt for the next how-to-draw book. It's best to pick a technique or two and then practice and practice more. Start with this book, then at some point down the road, you may want to look into books with more formal, "fine art" techniques.After buying this book, I gave away most of my other beginner drawing books!

Checked this out at the library over and over and decided I needed my own copy

Higher price than I wanted to pay, so bought a cheaper one. Turned out grossly inferior, so sprung for this one. Really excellent if you like sketching ‘things’. Full of suggestions as well as step by step instructions. Well worth the price.

The simplicity of this book makes it enjoyable.

As a person who is new to art and drawing I enjoy having this book close by to give me an assist in casual drawing. My own skills are steadily improving as I use these sketches to guide me. At first I was copying them completely, now I can give them a quick glance and then do the rest myself. Admittedly this is a book for us beginners who are not concerned with putting out exact realistic drawings (that's what cameras are for, right?) but it has made a difference to me since I no longer struggle and can enjoy my drawing adventures and I am drawing more often now. I keep it at my bedstand to add a sketch or two in my journal entries.

Great book to learn or to improve your drawing, sketching ability. The author clearly demonstrates and illustrates in step by step ways how to sketch everyday things. Really fun and easy!

This ended up being a little to detailed and complicated. Not sure she uses it much. Thinking I should have bought something a bit more simple for a pre-teen.

This book is wonderful for both beginners and well established artists to use for either learning or practicing drawing skills. Everything is there for you to use for practice and absolutely every drawing technique and perspective is pictured for you to practice on without endless instructions. The instructions given are for basic angles and shadings that you might considering in drawing a like drawing. Lovely book. Exactly what is needed and definitely more enlightening than tedious. Great inspirational little book, good resource for sketchers. Also good for the days when you are short of ideas.

Its quiet a good book ......if you are looking for copmletely step by step then you are in wrong place but its good book for reffering object , people ,...etc to draw hope its helpful

This is a gift for my grandson to go with the pencil set.
