MIYABI Cutting board, Hinoki, Large

Great small cutting board for your best knives.
Beautiful single piece board (not glued strips), with very clear wide grain with wonderful aroma from the cypress. I was surprised that it came with a juice groove but that is not a show stopper as I consider this board to be reversible. I have ordered boards from US and Canadian custom cutting board shops and this board has by far the best fit and finish that I have ever seen. This single board small slab Hinoki is a softer wood than the typical Cherry, Walnut, or Maple that Americans seem to demand and it will require a skilled gentle cutting technique that will let your best knives do the work. But that is what you want this type of wood for, as it will keep your knives "sharp" intact. This board was shipped from Japan in approx 3 weeks. It was well packaged and arrived with no discernible damage.

Best cutting board ever!
The smell that fills the room is heavenly when you wet the board! An end grain wood cutting board would weight 2-3x as much and have the same or lesser feel of this board. Big enough to cut multiple things on one board but small enough to stow away when not in use. 10/10

Wood is beautifully clear! This is an expensive brand
Well designed, light weight. Smaller than expected. Wood is beautifully clear! This is an expensive brand, similar products can be purchased at half the cost of Miyabi.Product arrived with a few dents and dings on the edges. Should have been packaged/protected better considering the distance of travel from Europe to Usa.

Excellent quality chopping board for expensive hard steel japanese knives.
Superb cutting board, nice size and made from one single piece of reassuringly thickJapanese Hinoki wood with a softer, finer surface suitable and recommended for all thosemore expensive hardened japanese knives with a Rockwell hardness of 59 to 64 andtheir delicate blades.Such blades are very hard and consequently much more brittle than standard kitchen knivesthey are very carefully designed for refined and elegant slicing only (Never chop!)and using a softer more elastic surface such as Hinoki wood will help protect them from chipping.I am pretty sure that this board will mark fairly easily but I did'nt want to wreck my very hard Kaji blade onmy old nylon board! Fairly expensive item but worth it if you want to take proper care of your blade in use.

What a beautiful board!!
The thickness of the board makes warping less of a concern and the amazing aroma from hinoki makes it an exquisite addition to my kitchen. For this size, this board incredibly light thanks to the material, but not to a point that makes it feel "flimsy". Absolutely a joy to use. After use, make sure dry it appropriately and leave it at a well ventilated place. Never, never ever put this in a dishwasher. It deserves a human touch.

Sometime can be a tough board
This should be a high-end and professional cutting board. However it do have disadvantages with its Hinoki finish. The board is soft so any blade could go in easily. This cause a problem if you deal with quick chopping and have been used to a hard board. The knife can "stick" on to the board a bit and make your chopping less quick. But the natural fragrance coming from it delights me a lot.

Great product
Great product.I previously went through boards very quickly, usually due to warping.I'm happy to report that the board is still going strong after a few months. The drip tray only being on one side is also very practical.

Incredibly light weight
This Hinoki wood is incredibly light-weight and easy to lift, and has a lovely silky feel to it. Miyabi's board is made from a single solid piece of wood. One side is completely flat and the other side has a little channel round the edge for catching meat juices.
