I haven't learned how to use it. Not enough instruction

This gets the job done but if you are planning on doing a large matte, it is a challenge. I used it to matte a jersey frame and it took a lot of patience and an extra hand to cut the large square. The final product turned out nice though. See picture (I cut the large mattes). If you are planning to cut small mattes, this is perfect. This is definitely not for someone wanting to cut a lot of mattes or large mattes though!

I waited far too long to buy one. Being able to cut picture mats yourself is very satisfying. The included blade is wicked sharp. Slight overcuts are not noticeable in final mat cuts. Four-cornered blade is good for longevity, but be very careful when replacing the blade. I cut myself the first time when popping it open by being careless. The cutter feels durable and nicely weighted. Cuts are cleanest with multiple shallow passes, so straightedge is a must; preferably one that can be clamped or taped in place. Housing includes guide marks to help align the blade with your reference line.

Wow, this tool is not intuitive. I imagine it works great if you know how to use a mat cutter, but as someone who's never done it before I really struggled. It's well constructed and sturdy, but I wasn't able to cut any mats with it. Only giving three stars because it's probably user error.

This cutter was a waste of money. I read in the reviews that some users felt there was a learning curve, so I was prepared to have to practice for it to look right. I have cut many mats for frames using a knife, but this cutter never worked well. Yes, it cuts on a 45 degree angle, but having to cut each line multiple times ended with every line being somewhat jagged. It's not sharp, smooth or easy to control. Lining up for each cut and hitting the starting spot and the ending spot was not very accurate. If you're hoping for DIY professional looking mats, I do not recommend this.

Well-made with accurate reference marks and durable materials. The base is sufficiently large and allows for easy accommodation of a variety of jigs and guides. I like it a lot.

Wow. Wow wow wow! I've tried multiple mat cutters from both Logan and Fletcher and never had an easy time of it. A "good" mat worth using was always a compromise and almost never the first effort. I did one practice cut with the NT cutter. I then cut two mats, first try, no flaws, no compromises. Draw the window the back of the board; mark a cutting guide 3/8" outside your window; set up your straight edge; and go. The NT blade lets you cut both directions; set the depth gauge, and you know when your cut is complete. Cutting mats has always been a trial for me. Now, I'm actually looking forward to my next framing projects.

This actually works pretty well. Though it does have alignment marks to make things easy and repeatable, I did a test cut first, to get the feel of it and check how to get the bevels to meet without over doing the cut. Got excellent results on the first actual mount cut after that. I'd recommend using either a strong aluminium ruler with a handle for greater non-slip stability or, failing that, clamping the ends of the ruler if possible for best results. It's reasonably well made and should last well with occasional use. However, though the blade it comes with has four cutting edges it will inevitable wear out (whatever claims they make for the longevity of the steel), and there don't appear to be replacement blades available. For occasional use this is pretty good and I'd recommend it for that. However, if you're cutting mounts daily and in quatity then the Logan is the way - though clearly at greater cost. This is great value for the money, though, and works well when used with some care and attention.
