Better than IKEA. I love mine! Very easy to assemble if you know how to follow directions!

Q: What are the dimensions of the top shelf; is the top shelf large enough to place a potted plant on a medium sized planter (roughly 10" in diameter)??

The shelves are 23.6'' wide. The depths are 13.7'', 12.6'', 11.4'', and 10.2'' respectively from the bottom to the top. So the top shelf has no problem to hold a medium sized planter.

Q: Would this be strong enough to support my 5 gallon betta fish tank?

The kit that will allow the shelf to be attached to the wall is included. If this kit is used properly then the shelf would be stable enough for a five gallon fish tank. The build itself is more than capable of holding it. However, it would be a bit wobbly without attaching it to a wall..

It is 7 1/2 inches from the floor to the bottom shelf.

the metal bars have white paints and wood panels are scratched. It did not even have a box. It came as wrapped in bubble plastic. One of the stabilizing screws holes at the back is smaller than the screw. It is not stable. It is cheap but still a waste of money.This is a bad fake of Vasagne. I don't understand how amazon allows this.
