For use in the classroom, you should look at something else. These sleeves are perfect for photos that are going into an album, but not strong enough for daily use. I hope this helps.

the actual size of the opening of the sleeves I have is 4 1/4 by 6 1/4.

I think it would depend on the size of your pictures or items. These fit 4x6 photos with not much room to spare. They are durable enough for storage of photos but I have no idea how they would hold ip to spiral binding.
