I just received this today, so this is the first time using the rake. My husband use it to remove the fur from our Leonberger, St. Bernard and 2 small dogs from the carpet. I have not vacuumed in a couple of days in anticipation of receiving this rake. Well, all I can say is it does what it states it will do. It picked up all the dog fur to the point that it looked like I have vacuumed. I was amazed! The carpet rake head and the handle seems to go together nicely, however, I'm sure if you apply too much pressure on the handle then it might become disconnected from the head. But I will have to wait and see if that happens. I will provide an update after using this product for a while.Packing was horrific!! The outside box was damaged, like it had been throw around the warehouse before pickup. The box that the rake head came in was open on both ends, so the rake head was hanging outside the package. I was sure something would be broken or damaged. Thank goodness was was not the case, luckily the product was intact. This is the reason for the 4 star rating.All in all, I hope this rug rake will safe my Dyson vacuum by picking up all the dog fur prior to me vacuuming.Update: used this today (Day 2) and adding a picture. The bottom half of the photo shows the carpet prior to using the rake. This is one 1 day without vacuuming. The top half of the picture is after I used the universal Carpet Rake on it, and it looks like I just vacuumed.2nd Update: after having and using this rake every other day since it arrived. I can still say I LOVE IT. The rake does it's job every time, and pulls up more dog hair then you can see on the carpet. It has saved my Dyson Vacuum.... I rake one day and vacuum the next, and you would never know there were dogs in the house. Take my advice, if you have a dog that sheds, short or long hair, this is the cleaning tool you MUST have in your arsenal to keep your carpets looking great.I would recommend this to a friend and I hope this review helps others.

We have a large animal family, and hair on our rugs is hard for our vacuum to pick up. This rug rake works great at removing all that hair before we vacuum.

I have a vacuum designed especially for homes with pets, and for PET hair, it does pretty well. For HUMAN hair, it has a much harder time and despite cleaning the roller after each vacuuming session, I've had to replace the roller and the belt three times. My hair is almost down to my waist and my stepdaughter can sit on her hair and we both shed a LOT of hair. I think we shed more than the cats, actually.I was looking for something that would get up as much hair as possible off the carpet prior to vacuuming it, read the reviews, and ordered The Universal Rug Rake. I haven't had any problems with the height of the handle (I'm 5'7") and the handle hasn't collapsed on me during use, although I do tighten it before each use so maybe that's why. Using short, quick strokes and working in a grid pattern, it is both impressive and a little scary how much hair this thing gets up. We did a 3x3 section of carpet in the hallway outside the bathroom - we had to clean out the rake twice. I didn't realize how much hair was left behind after vacuuming. I also noticed that it did a very nice job of fluffing up the carpet, and it's made getting some of the deep down dirt that gets imbedded into the lowest part of the carpet fibers much easier to get up. The rug rake has been great for getting up all the junk that clogs my vacuum, and I use it daily to keep the carpets looking fresh. It's made vacuuming quicker and more efficient, because I'm no longer stopping to clean the roller, and there's no more burnt hair smell lingering in the air after I'm done. (gross, I know)All in all, I am extremely pleased with my purchase, and have already recommended this product to friends.
