The gas spring lid support hinges worked great for my chest project. Now, I feel that the chest is finally safe, particularly for children.For potential buyers, there are a couple things that I would note to improve your experience:① At first glance, it may appear that you’ve received 2 lefts or 2 rights, yet what you have to do is remove the screw from the disc, flip it, then reattach. Initially, I was upset at the prospect of having not received a true pair and was going to reach out to the seller until I realized that I could flip the disc.② The screws that it comes with are tiny, wimpy, and, in my opinion, inadequate for use, especially considering the force of the gas springs. I went to the hardware store and got respectable screws which were much much stronger for the job. I suggest that you do the same. The manufacturer and seller really ought to size things correctly for good staying power.

I have been thoroughly impressed with the performance. These automatic slow lowering safety pneumatic lid lifters have completely transformed the functionality of my lids. They have a heavy-duty construction. They feel solid and sturdy, giving me confidence in their durability and ability to handle heavy loads. Installation was a breeze, thanks to the clear instructions provided.

I installed this on a large chest for my son to prevent slamming the lid on his fingers. Instructions and installation dimensions weren’t the easiest to follow but the hinges are sturdy and operate great. The dimensions are given in tenths of an inch instead of fractions so, unless you have a scale, you are forced to approximate the dimensions on your measuring tape. After figuring out the correct positioning, the installation is pretty simple. There is now zero chance that the lid can slam shut. These hinges took my hope chest refinish/upholstery project to the next level as well as made it safe for my son to use. Would have been five stars if the installation instructions were simpler and clearer.Tips for quicker installation: First, install the lower bracket using the two given dimensions between the bracket center point as measured from the back and top of the box. Then, install the fully extended hinge onto the lower bracket with the single screw provided. Then, hold the lid open at an angle of 75 degrees while marking the top hole location of the upper bracket on the inside of the lid. I used a digital protractor to ensure proper angle. You will need to uninstall the hinge from the lower bracket to mark the lower hole location of the upper bracket. Drill marked holes and install hinge at all locations. Done!Drilling tip: Wrap a piece of tape on your drill bit at 1/2” from tip. This will give you a depth mark to prevent drilling through the sides/lid of your box.

Bought two but I only needed one of these struts to modify a hope chest to make it safe as a toy chest. The instructions with the struts are tricky to understand, but once you puzzle through them the measurements are fine. The mechanism is not meant to close the lid like a self closing kitchen drawer. Instead they provide resistance as you close the lid so it eases shut instead of slamming. I was concerned that two struts would make the lid too stiff for the kids to close, so I installed one and tried it out. It took 30 minutes to decipher the instructions and 10 minutes to install the first strut. Success. My 2 yr. old can close the lid just fine. Please note: the Lane hope chest I used originally had a lock that would be VERY dangerous for kids because it could lock a child inside the air tight box! Be sure to remove the lock.

Hinge is great quality and works really well for our cedar chest. Installation would have been easier if the measurements on the instructions/video were right. As others have mentioned, measurements for placement are not correct. I promise you, stranger on the internet, I am a champ with instructions. I actually fully understood the task and steps, but the measurements were just flat wrong. I even got second opinions.If you want precision placement, you will not get it without some trial and error to accommodate the oddness of the measurements. So if your chest is precious and you can’t imagine putting multiple holes in it, look elsewhere. If you are willing tok around and figure out a placement that works, you’ll be okay. That’s what I did and I do love the hinge, it was just a shot in the dark for install.Good luck to you all. May you have success.

The Douper 200N Gas Struts work very well and were perfect for my project.I built a hinged lid on top of a horizontal Murphy Bed that needs to be opened 90 degrees and held in place to open up the bed. The lid weighs 25 pounds, and a single gas strut was all I needed to manage the load.It was a little tricky to figure out the mounting position because the lid is more of a crown sitting on top of a cabinet designed to look like a piece of antique furniture. The instructions provide measurements for a more standard box design that you have to “translate” to a piece of furniture where the lid is a box and not a flat panel.To make this work I used a scrap piece on the side of the cabinet to attach the lower part of the hinge in a trial location. Once it was attached, I marked a connection point on the lid with it opened to 90 degrees where I wanted it. The first attempt was pretty close but did not allow the lid to close all the way. So I shifted the strut down which got things working perfectly.I definitely recommend these struts.

I searched for reviews that mention using these hinges on a tack trunk with no luck, so leaving a quick review for future equestrians. These worked great to replace the (not so durable) hinges on my Smartpak Deluxe wood trunk. A few things to know - they are larger (longer) than described on the Amazon listing, and on the materials in the box, and in the installation video. This made installing them less straightforward as the detailed measurements in the video simply don’t work. We were able to make adjustments that worked. I’d describe the installation as low to moderately challenging for someone with limited “handy” experience. As other reviewers mention, the lifting action of these hinges is strong. Without resistance my lid snapped open enough that I worried about damage over time — but after a few days of use the action seems to have moderated. This also affects (lessens) the slow close, but that is not a concern for me. Time will tell, but overall these hinges appear to be good quality and I’m pleased with the purchase.

These hinges are almost perfect for my application. I have a very old and heavy trunk. I tried to weigh the door with a bathroom scale to see what type of hinges I needed. These do provide quite a bit of assistance on the open. The hinges also hold the lid open at about a 75 or 80° tilt. And if you close them by hand, the lid closes quite smoothly. However, if you try to get it to start to close and let it go, it does slam. It's much better than it was. Now. It's probably just bruised fingers instead of broken fingers. Still, I just ordered the 250 Newton hinges to see if they're better. I wish it was a more scientific way to determine what type of hinges you needed beforehand. If the 250 don't work, I might have to go up to the bigger gas stretch that are for trailer camper tops.

Super smooth opening and closing. Held the heavy lid just like we were hoping.

The product description on Amazon is confusing - it cannot open to 90 degrees by design. The enclosed instruction says 75 which is truth. The product is a good quality, but designed for heavier objects and may be too strong for a regular wooden door or boxtop. Slams to open, may be dangerous.

Installation was fairly simple. Holds enough weight to do what I need it to do. When I took inventory of what I received, the cap screw on one arm (fix it to the round connection) was missing but they gave me an extra screw instead, which doesn’t work. Luckily I had a spare in my junk drawer…
