Leonard Bernstein's Candide In Concert[Blu-ray]

A marvelous experience listening to great stage singers, a fabulous orchestra and choir, in a hilarious and ribald story. Kristen Chenoweth at her best and Patti Lupone make for great hilarity and beautiful music, This is an experience not to miss! I an so glad to finally have a copy of this for my own.

Beautifully sung and acted by every member of the cast. The role of the chorus is hilarious!!! Simply put this is my definitive version of this show and it’s so wonderfully edited together. Perfection.

This is a concert for the ages. Sung with virtuosity under the maestro’s own baton. Not to be missed.

Very well done. A must for any fan of Leonard Bernstein, Marin Alsop, or Voltaire.

Wonderful concert production of this staple with excellent singers and much humor. Sound on this DVD is terrific.

Very disappointed in this transfer, Shout Factory. The image often stutters making the action look like it's in slow motion. Vibrant? Yes. I'm keeping my DVD where at least I don't get motion sickness. Did anyone actually bother to watch this at Shout Factory before issuance?

The best "Candide" out there for viewing purposes.

Aside from the critique of this particular staging (I personally enjoyed it), be warned that the Blu-ray transfer is seriously flawed in two ways: 1) the video track is encoded at 23.976 fps even though this was shot for TV at 29.97 fps; this may be one reason the video stutters and hiccups during any fast motion. 2) The audio, though decent in quality (DTS-MA) has been downmixed from the original 5.1 for TV broadcast to simple L/R stereo, so a lot of the presence of the live recording and ambience effects (such as having the audience reactions and applause come through the surrounds) has been lost. It's as if Shout Factory knew this wouldn't be a big seller and just assigned the authoring task to a summer intern who wasn't familiar with the software, then didn't even bother with any Q/C. It's a shame, because I'd been waiting for years for this to finally come out on Blu-ray. Until the technical problems are corrected, the DVD is a more desirable presentation.

Ce blu ray est indiqué "not rated". En toute logique il nous appartient de choisir la zone lors de la première lecture. Là c'est impossible. On reste bloqué sur le premier écran sans aucune possibilité de sélectionner quoi que ce soit. Pure arnaque ! A fuir ! 32,62 euros de perdus !

I would love to see this but i can't. It was a Blu-Ray region 1 and hardcoded. They don't write that out clearly cause i bought a lot of B-R with uncoded region. I'll se it live at the Royal Opera Stockholm at saturday...

クリスティンチェノウェスの「着飾ってきらびやかに」はコミカル且つ素晴らしいです。この曲目は歌う事が難しいオペレッタの上位に食い込むらしいので、クリスティンの豊かな声量と突き抜ける高音には圧倒されます。色々な歌姫が歌っているので聴き比べも面白いですね。ただ、私は英語に不案内なので訳を手元に置いて聴かないと何も解りません。そうです、字幕がありません。ストーリー自体は荒唐無稽ですが、ひとつひとつの曲目は素晴らしいです。英語ができる方はストレートにそうでない方は手元に訳を置いたほうが良いかと思います。ストーリーは本等で把握しておいた方がより分かります。日本語で上映された事もあるようですがヤッパリネイティブなものが良いですね。
