Nespresso Vertuo Coffee & Espresso Maker by De'Longhi

I have only had my Nespresso coffee maker for 8 days but so far I can’t say enough good things about it. So far the only negative thing I can say about it is: it is expensive and so are the pods, however, that stacked against the convenience of having a perfect cup of coffee with very little fuss or mess is, at least for me, worth the trade off. I’m a recent widow and I love my coffee but I can no longer drink it all day or even many times a day and I am very particular about what I want in a cup of coffee so this machine makes sense for me particularly in this time of my life. It makes a truly perfect cup of good strong full bodied coffee and it comes out hot! That was my criteria, I wanted a strong, smooth tasting yet full bodied and I wanted it to be hot- not lukewarm like other coffee machines I had used. I also wanted something simple to use that didn’t require a lot of fuss and mess and I was willing to pay a little extra for that. The other thing was a regular coffee maker can be hard to keep the inside parts clean and mold free. This machine meets all those points perfectly. I’m very pleased with how this machine performs, I absolutely love it! Oh yes then there’s the crema—that was a bonus, I started looking for just an espresso maker that actually made crema, well this machine makes several different size cups and everyone of them has loads of crema I wasn’t expecting that in the larger brews. It comes with a great selection of pods and it all sizes to get you started.

I have prepared Nespresso coffee at home for over five years and love it for the easy brew process and flavor. I purchased this machine to use in my business office. I have used the new machine for several days and like its features – large water supply tank (fewer refills), large spent capsule tank (fewer needs to empty), adjustable brew-water amount (although I am quite happy with the default settings), and I believe it runs just a bit quieter (though, my original machine has never been too loud). The only problem: When the machine first arrived, I was unable to run the initial “first-use” cleaning cycle. The machine would not draw water from the water supply tank. (I believe this to be an understandable issue for any “water” pump that is initially dry since the pump, which is obviously designed to pump “water”, is initially trying to pump “air”. The user manual acknowledges that this may happen on a rare occasion. Once the pump has drawn water, this should never happen again.) After failure at two normal cleaning cycle attempts, I called the Nespresso support line. To their great credit, they talked me through a set of actions that corrected the problem and they remained on the line with me the whole time. While I would strongly encourage Nespresso to find a way to eliminate this type of problem, I must say that the machine works beautifully and I would not hesitate to order another if the need should arise. (Because Nespresso online support was exceptional, my rating reflects solely my satisfaction of the working machine.)

This is my second De'Longhi Vertuo machine. I've always heard De'Longhi makes great products, and this one is no different. I purchased this machine for our 2nd home. I could not be more pleased with the Nespresso products. The coffee is great, that's why I bought this machine. I could not imagine having coffee in the morning at our beach place from a regular coffee machine. At first I thought the Vertuo Line pods were a rip off because they do cost $1.10 each, but once you taste the coffee it's worth it. The coffee brews smooth, no more bitter coffee in my house. This machine was an open box product. I opened it and it got an air bubble in the line when I placed the water tank to start the cleaning process, so it would not run water through to complete the cleaning cycle. I called Nespresso (they have great customer service) the rep stayed with me on the line until we got the air bubble out of the line and viola! my machine is working like a charm. Would buy again if needed. I'm hooked on Nespresso, specially the Vertuo line, it's just like having coffee in Europe on those sidewalk cafes that serve the best coffee ever. This is the same. You have to descale the machine once in while to keep the coffee tasting great. Descaling has a lot to do where you live and if you use tap water. We use purified bottled water so I have not had a need to descale my 1st machine that I've had for 6 months now. It's easy to clean, just wipe down with a wet microfiber cloth and that's it. Great coffee. If you just want to taste the coffee and see if this would be worth it for you, I recommend you go to the nearest Nespresso Boutique and you can taste all their coffees for free. I'm not affiliated with Nespresso in anyway nor did I receive any perks for leaving this review. I just really love their coffee. After drinking bitter coffee for most of my life, and longing to know what was the secret in the coffee I drank in most cafes in Europe, am just happy that I found a coffee maker that am able to drink the coffee that left me longing every time I came home.

First let me say that I this machine is great. It makes a great cup of coffee using Nespresso pods. The problem I have is that I originally purchased this machine to make Nespresso Alto XL pods that brewed a 14oz cup of coffee. Unlike others that prefer an espresso or a 7.77oz cup of coffee, I enjoy a full cup of coffee. The Alto XL pods were perfect. Great taste, great amount of coffee. Then Nespresso discontinued the Alto XL line. Given the hundreds of comments you can find online, it wasn't due to lack of sales. I believe Nespresso thought they could sell twice as many 7.77oz pods to those that used the 14oz Alto pods. In this underhanded attempt to drive more revenue, Nespresso alienated a large swath of loyal customers. The problem is that two 7.77oz pods seem to have twice the caffeine as one 14oz pod, so even paying almost twice as much to get 14oz from two 7.77oz pods puts you in jitter mode, let alone the price doubling scheme. i can only imagine that the Nespresso product selection is being driven by some accounting geek who only understands numbers, but doesn't understand the effect of these decisions on loyal customers. I do still purchase pods from Nespresso, but only a fraction of what I previously did. Now I mostly brew coffee in a pour-over brewer and use Nespresso pods for a quick cup here and there. Previously Nespresso was my go to coffee as it does make a great cup very conveniently, but screw-em. If a company doesn't appreciate their customers and makes moves purely driven on making an extra couple of bucks, let them deal with the fallout. So, overall this machine is great. Just make sure Nespresso has the pods you want. If you like smaller cups of coffee or espresso you'll be good. If you enjoy a larger cup of coffee look somewhere else. 1 year update After calling Nespresso customer service and being assured the Alto XL were just temporarily out of stock, it's obvious these have been discontinued. Nespresso truly sucks. Now I have a Vertuo machine that I don't use and there's 0 chance I'll buy the newer version that does use XL pods. I feel totally porked by Nespresso. Anybody want to buy a mint condition Vertuo machine for cheap?

Works great! It doesn’t take up a lot of space and was easy to get started. There was no plastic or odd smells. Only complaint is the vibration during operation will throw a cup out of the dispensing area so you cannot walk away from it or you’ll find the cup dislodged and spilled coffee. The pods are costly too.

The Nespresso Vertuo is amazing! When it makes a cup of coffee or espresso, etc. there is froth at the top. In my photos, with the glass, this is a double espresso. There’s a photo of the cup by itself to show the completed double espresso size. In the video, I could only get the start of the brewing to keep it under 30 seconds. The video shows how to insert the pod and how long it takes from when you put the pod in, how long it takes to start brewing. It’s fast. If you want to get the true experience of making cappuccinos or lattes, you might want to purchase a milk frother. The only downside for me is that the Nespresso machine doesn’t make the coffee as hot as I’d like it. But it’s hot enough. I like this size Nespresso due to the water tank is the largest out of all the models. The water tank is on the left and the area to catch the used pods is on the right. I love that the Nespresso pods are aluminum and not plastic and you can recycle them. Nespresso will provide bags to ship the pods to recycle them. We like the taste of the coffee, it’s brews nicely and there’s a variety of flavors to choose from as well as different sizes.

Killer product and coffee ... just besure not to ever use the refillable products... it literally will destroy your machine.
