The Art of Drawing Dangles: Creating Decorative Letters and Art with Charms

I've been doing Zentangle for a long time now, and I love it, but Dangles are awesome!! So much fun! I combine them with other ZT designs and create all kinds of cool art. It works well to decorate planner pages or journal pages, too. Tons of design ideas, and step outs in the book.

I spent probably 2 hours looking for a decent lettering book for my 11 year old cousin. She really wanted to learn lettering. I finally settled on this book, but wasn't sure still because I ultimately just guessed between 3 different ones on which to get, but HOLY GEEZ did I get this right. This book is PERFECT!! It has step by step instructions for each letter (upper and lowercase), and while it only shows one method each time, the dangles part lets you customize it as much as you want, and each letter is so different that you can really bring in different design aspects of whatever letter you like the most to easily create different letters of your choosing. By the end of Christmas Day, 4 of us were all drawing letters. One of them was her 7 year old brother who substituted the flowers for baseball dangles, which was totally adorable. There were also other words with different style dangles aside from the actual alphabet, which showed more cool ways to customize your letters. I will MOST DEFINITELY be buying one for myself as well. I'm totally obsessed.

I bought this book for some creative ideas to decorate my cookies that I make. It has a wealth of designs as well as alphabet letters. It has lots of pages (144) to entertain and inspire. It is organized well into 10 chapters including words, letters, shapes & mandalas, everyday, projects, charms and a color gallery. There are some good instructions on creating your own dangles and designs. Such a great addition to my inspiration library!

First i want to thank whoever decides on the number of pages for the reader to peruse before purchasing. Book stores allow you to flip through any book without restrictions. I understand that many books content can be 'stolen' with an online copy and is aggravating, but It is because I could see much of the books content that I purchased it. It doesn't disappoint. It is a beautiful book with positively exquisite dangles that you do not have to imagine...they are here. Sorry couldn't resist using 3 of the dangled words shown in the idea section. Thank you for an amazing book with amazing ideas. I am enjoying my new dangling and lettering adventure very much.

This is my new favorite handlettering book (and I have a library of them!).If you like whimsical lettering, you'll LOVE this book. Seriously, even if dangles aren't your thing (they're totally mine!), Olivia breaks down how she creates the letters in her book, including fill pattern and more. She gives examples of all the letters, shapes, ideas for projects, and more!What I really love about dangles is how they can transform even clumsy lettering into mini works of art. I use them in particular when I realized (again) that we are out of birthday cards, and I can just take cardstock and draw a name, and fancy up the letters with some dangles and color! You'll find that even if you feel like you're not in the least bit creative/can't draw/etc, you can make awesome, individual cards for your friends (or your kids' friends!) just by copying Olivia's designs (you know, as a jumping off point!). I bet you'll surprise yourself.Anyway, I simply can't recommend this book highly enough. It's in my "don't leave the house without it" bag, and likely to be there for a while!(Note: I was first introduced to dangles a couple years ago by a page in Joanne Fink's Zenspirations: Letters & Patterning, which I also recommend for fun lettering ideas, although it's much shorter than this one.)

I bought this book to loosen up my drawing skills, and it's working. The author explains how to add dangles to words and shapes. It's been fun!

Back in 2019 I bought this book for $3.80. Lately I've been thinking about buying a copy as a gift. Then (06/25/23) I saw the price has jumped to $21.99. I love this book, but I don't know if I can justify the current price.

Increíble libro super colorido el mejor

Ce livre (en anglais) est magnifique, autant dans sa qualité papier que dans la qualité des illustrations, le choix de l'ordre de présentation et la clarté des explications. J'ai déjà fait quelques dangles et me référer aux exemples du livre m'a aidée à diversifier mes idées et à mieux comprendre les codes de cet art tout simple, mais tellement relaxant et magnifique à la fin! Merci pour ce livre! :-)

O livro é dividido em 7 capítulos, tendo uma introdução que explica o que é 'dangle', o seu uso e os materiais recomendados para desenhá-los. O capítulos tratam dos desenhos de letras (maúsiculas e minúsculas), formas e mandalas, natureza, velas, animais e etc, alguns projetos onde você pode utilizar os dangles apresentados nos capítulos anteriores, e vários modelos de desenhos (charms). O livro é impresso em papel de muito boa qualidade, mas não há espaço para você praticar os seus desenhos. No gerale gostei muito do livro: ele reune todo o básico do desenho de dangles em um único lugar. É um livro escrito em inglês, mas isso não impede a compreensão de suas instruções. Recomendo!

Ich habe dieses Buch von einer amerikanischen Freundin empfohlen bekommen und muss sagen es gefällt mir ausgesprochen gut. Schöne Doodles, sowohl mit Worten als auch mit Symbolen. Das es Englischsprachig ist stört mich persönlich nicht, da die Beschreibungen selbsterklärend sind. Auf jeden Fall erhält man viele Anregungen um seine Bilder im Whymsical Style aufzuhübschen.
