Art Beyond the West

I only give this book three stars because the material is so boring. It's insane to think someone who wrote this stuff is making money. Obviously I took a general education class and this book was used. It's an easy read but extremely boring for someone like an engineering student. I recommend the kindle edition because it's like a PDF which means you can CTRL+F and search keywords during an exam or writing assignment and be taken straight to the facts and not read a bunch of crap about drums, face paint, religious symbols, and see pictures of people in third world countries dancing around in stupid outfits.

This very dense text is so filled with facts that do not hang together in context that it is more a list than a book. Little context is given and I end up memorizing rather than understanding. Unfortunately, rote rather than thinking has become the norm in American Education, and this text fulfills that goal.

Reads like stereo instructions, but gives the information that any sane, non-sadistic instructor would want students to have.

I had to buy this for my art history class and I actually liked the book.Many pictures, of course colored, and many many interesting facts about non-western art.It's been two semester after I took the class, but I still have the book :)

A good book in good condition a great price and a good company to work with

For a textbook this is not a bad book at all. In fact, I really enjoyed reading most of the book that was assigned.

Rented for a art class prerec.Some really nice pictures and great info, I really liked the earlier chapters and yeah.

Well written and beautifully illustrated.
