Solid knife from Gerber
I have quite a few knives, and this Gerber downwind drop point knife is a nice addition to my collection. The Gerber name is well-known when it comes to quality knives, and this one is not an exception. It is a well-made knife with a very sharp blade right out of the box. I used it to cut a few things around the house (nothing too demanding), and it sliced through them like butter. This is not a full-tang design, and the blade is not very thick, but it is sufficiently sturdy for most situations. The knife comes in a waxed canvas sheath with a fastener to keep the knife in place and a loop to attach it to your belt. The blade is made of Cr7 grade steel, and the handle is made of G10 military-grade composite material. The overall size of this knife is fairly compact (compared to some other outdoor knives I have), so it's easier to carry. I haven't had a chance to test it outdoors, it's early spring, and I will need to wait for warmer weather before I go on my hiking trips, but I have a feeling this knife will perform just fine. Overall, I think it's a very solid quality knife, and I would recommend it.

The workhorse knife
This knife belongs to the Gerber Gear Downwind series of which at the time of purchase and this writing, are three: Caper, Ulu, and Drop Point. As such reviews for all three will share the initial part of the review with specific details of each model towards the end (It is not lengthy so fear not). All three knives share the same engineering, design, and materials. The handles are layered G10 that give it a tree bark look, will last a lifetime and a half, and all have (finally! ) real lanyard holes and not pinprick sized holes like other knives. The G10 does seem a bit too smooth but they have jimping that a starts seamlessly continue t the blade. Each blade is stone washed, and very sharp. This review is for the drop point, which is the workhorse of the three. It manages to slice through skin, muscle, and bone with ease. Wood processing is a breeze thanks to the blade profile, jimping, and finger choil. If one can only take one knife of the three, this is the jack of all trades to take.

Need a great fixed blade knife?
The Good: -Well designed -Sharp blade -Comfortable non slip handle -Great carrying case The Bad: -None The Bottom Line: I carry this fixed blade knife while camping and serves as my primary knife to my backup folder. The design of the knife is simple yet functional. The blade is sharp and the handle is comfortable and non slip. The sheath is very nice and keeps the knife secure. Overall, I would recommend this Gerber fixed blade knife for its sharpness and functionality.

Might be the greatest knife ever. But after ordering the black, I received the olive. Can't be bothered and don't have the time to make a return. So, I'm stuck with a knife that I don't entirely love. It'll surely get the job done. But, no, I don't entirely love it, as I do care about the aesthetics of my gear. Whether it's Gerber or the Seller, you need to fix whatever it is that needs to be fixed so that the product ordered is the product actually delivered. For those planning to order here, caveat emptor.

A good little bushcraft knife.
Gerber is a pretty well-known brand, but I'd never really given them a shot. This knife, though, was appealing enough for me to change that. It's tough, and it puts up to any and all abuse I can throw at it. It keeps an edge for a good long while, and I haven't wrecked it yet. I'm pretty tough on my gear, doing a lot of batoning and working with wood. The Gerber can do it all, which is a pleasant surprise.

Sharp, solid feel in the hand too. A few negatives to note though.
This is a very decent little knife from Gerber from my use and testing so far. It's very sharp but it still seems to have a couple drawbacks as I'll explain below. The Good: Earlier, I walked around in the woods chopping sticks, branches, anything small and wood that I could whittle I'd try to whittle or cut. Lol. The blade seems to have held up decently well (I'll explain more below) and it is pretty sharp! Unfortunately, I don't have any meat to de-bone or anything but I'm pretty sure this would handle it no problem. When I was whittling earlier just to test the blade, I could feel it digging into the wood deep with not much force. (I tried to show this in the picture with the blade stuck into the stick. Haha. It was noticeably sharper than a few comparable knives I've tried. I like the grip and control this knife gives you too. I like the ridges on the top of the blade and handle. They feel good and they make me want to hold my thumb on the back of the knife. The ridges feel like they help add to the grip and control you have too. However... it isn't all good. The BAD (Reasons I took off 2 stars): After using this knife today, I noticed that the edge had a slight roll or chip in it. Realistically, I chopped a some sticks and twigs and stuff earlier, but I never hit anything harder than wood with it. I don't like the fact that the edge started to roll a little already without extensive use after only chopping wood. I tried to include a picture of the edge roll but it is very minor. (It's right under the "4" in the "A4" lettering in one of my pictures.) I think the reason this knife feels sharper than other similar fixed blade knives is because the steel used for the blade of this knife is a little thin. It allows the knife to dig into the medium that you're cutting, but since it is on the thinner side, the edge retention seems to suffer a little. Also, I don't like the sheath very much. I DO really like the way it hangs off your belt lower than other sheath's I've tried. It makes the knife easier to access. I really don't like the little clasp that's supposed to hold the knife in the sheath though. If you pull on the knife towards the side, even with the button snapped closed, the knife can still be pulled out of the sheath. Not very secure in my opinion. Overall, this is a very decent knife... but it isn't the best knife I've tried or anything. I love how sharp it is though, so if you need a utility/camp knife with a sharp edge, but you don't need super durable edge retention, this would probably suit you well. (I'm thinking if you only plan to use this to chop food at a campsite or something similar, it would be perfect for that.) However, if you're looking for a really solid steel durable blade, there are better options out there, in my opinion.
