Sturdy and easy to install
I could not find the right fit at Home Depot. These work perfectly. After hanging up all of our clothes, the original installed brackets fell out. These have been amazing replacement and are strong enough to hold everything. I have doubled up how many brackets are in the closet compared to what was there in the first place.

Well made and perfect for closets
The local store did not have it. This is the closest matching bracket to what the contractor used for my closet...but better.

Recommend adding a washer
These brackets worked well, but I ended up adding a washer to the upper screw. This was purchased for a coat closet, so it needed to be pretty sturdy since it would be holding more weight than a regular clothes closet. All seemed well but after putting the coats back in the closet, it came off the wall. The problem was that upper screws might not have been as tight as they could have been, but with the design of the screw hole, it was just a matter of time before it came loose. What happened was that the lower support was firmly in place (since it has a normal screw hole), but when the coats were put on the rod, the upper part of the bracket shifted up which lined up the screw head with the enlarged screw hole. It would have been better if both screw holes had been normal, but this was easily rectified by putting a washer on the upper screw.I think that the bracket is plenty strong enough for a coat closet, but you might want to consider adding a washer to help keep it in place.

If you need a shorter top, then you have to pay the higher price for this.
I needed this for a closet that had 3/4" plywood surrounding the top and sides of a shelf. However the bar was starting to bend and needed a support in the middle. This did the exact job I needed. So it was worth what is a pretty expensive price for just one item.

Not Heavy Duty
Relatively easy to install, cannot install both sections directly to wall stud. Top piece has to be installed to the underside of a shelf and has to be reinforced if anything substantial will be hanging on the rod. The metal is absolutely not heavy duty - I can bend with my hands. It works but needs reinforced.

Great find! Read review for useful iformation!
These are quality and exactly like the original ones in my closet (home built in 91). The only possible problem is that they no longer work if your dowel has already bowed/sagged to any substantial degree. Some of mine have done so (which is what prompted my search for these very hard to find brackets). I do not wish to remove entire dowels and/or replace them---I just want to add some extra support. I had noticed what looked like the same bracket but without screws (these screws seem worthless, anyway, as they are extremely short) by Knape & Vogt for five dollars less. I ordered some and realized the hooks on them were slightly longer than on these. They would be too long for the dowel to rest in them. I started a return but, then, had a quick thought about the sagging dowels and realized the longer hooks (Knape & Vogt) might be perfect for those since those areas needed a slightly longer length. Perfect!! So, I am keeping some of both. These are perfect for over half my rods and the others will give the added support where (badly) needed. Just a suggestion. Just order one of each to start if you are not sure and see if you actually could use both types or not---and how many.
