I don't use this product very often, but when I do, it does the job. The taste isn't the best but I don't know of any product for this purpose that would taste any better.

Anbesol is one of the greatest products to have in your home, especially around small children. I know too much of anything that's not generally harmful, can also hurt you. So I'm not saying that's it's 100% safe around small children. But sense it's an oral product and belongs in the mouth, it's not as harmful as must products that absolutely shouldn't be swallowed.What am I saying? This product is good for more than it claims, a tooth and gum pain reliever. I twisted my ankle some years ago, and it was mid-night and all stores were closed. I had run out of alcohol and was in so much pain, I was desperate to find anything that had alcohol in it> I read the Anbesol bottle and it read 70% alcohol. I rubbed it on my ankle and not only the the pain stop, but their was no swelling.From that day forward, I began to use it for small cuts, scratches, burns, and swellings. And it is safer around the housed with small children because it's made for the mouth and wouldn't be as harmful as other products used for cuts and bruises. I believe in this product so much, I'd have a half of mind to do a free commercial for the manufacturer. Notice...I said "half a mind." LOL

I doubt anybody likes the taste of this stuff; while they've tried to mask it with mint, it's just plain bitter, so be prepared. That said, if your tooth or gums hurt enough, you won't care about the taste. This numbs the area immediately. The relief doesn't last as long as I like, but it can be re-applied pretty much at will, short of thinking you can drink the bottle. I use cotton swabs to put this on the gums around the root of a tooth that has long been more exposed than it should be; it's the best treatment short of a full-on dental-surgery answer, and THIS I can afford. I recommend it for minor gum and mouth pain, as long as you can handle the fact that it's REALLY bitter.

I think I've tried everything - different brands, different types (e.g. salves, creams, gels, etc.) until I came across this product. Because of my experiences I can now say that, for me at least, this is THE product to get. Wow it is good stuff! I just soak a bit on the end of a Q-Tip and then apply it where necessary (I've just had to go to dentures). This product numbs the area totally where it is applied and it numbs it right now. One caveat however is that this stuff tastes terrible. It tastes just like the stuff the dentist uses to numb your gums before he injects the lidocaine. For all I know this could be the same product. But I have to admit that the taste is a small price to pay for the effectiveness. I can't recommend this product highly enough!

There's not a whole lot to say except that it works. Applying onto a canker sore will sting at first but reward you with 30 minutes of no pain. While it doesn't last long, it's good for going to sleep and eating a meal without pain, and you'll get a lot more mileage out of the vial than you think.
