Quality piece, just not for me.
Exo-Terra makes some of the best reptile enclosures and accessories on the market. This hood, however, just didn’t work for my intended purpose. We have a 24x18x24” enclosure and this is designed to sit right on top. It even kind of clicks into place. These have sockets for 3 different lights on 2 different switches (but one cable, so no differing timers) so they’re very flexible fir most uses as well. There are thermometers, hygrometers and combo units which slide right into the slots and those are great, too. Unfortunately, the hood is fairly tall and bulky, but what killed it for me was an annoying light gap coming out the front of the unit. I ended up going on a seemingly endless journey to find the right app-controlled LED aquarium lighting for my enclosures, but this one will likely work for most people, most of the time.

Exo Terra vs Zoo Med Terrarium Hood, 18-Inch
I own both Terrarium Hoods, here are the differences between the Exo Terra compact fluorescent 18" and the Zoo Med Naturalistic Terrarium Hood, 18-Inch 1. Exo has only one switch to control both bulbs while the Zoo Med has two switches so you can control the bulbs independently.2. Exo has a 40 watt maximum incandescent rating, the Zoo Med is rated for 60 watts (both can use 26 Watt compact fluorescents)3. Exo has a wider light distribution, being 7.8" wide vs the Zoo Med width at 5"4. Exo's power cord and switch are on the right side of the fixture, Zoo Med's (two switches) are on the back. Something to consider if you are using two lights "back to back" or if you want the cord hidden on the back side.5. Exo has a Sliding rim to mount accessories such as the Exo Terra Digital Thermometer and Hygrometer, the Zoo Med has no mounts. No big deal if you don't use the accessories.6. Exo is a much nicer/cleaner looking fixture than the Zoo Med (personal opinion).Bottom Line: Like I stated I own both Terrarium Hoods and both are quality fixtures, I have both fixtures on top a Zoo Med Terrarium Naturalist 18L x 18W x 24H . The Zoo med on the back and the Exo Terra up front.I removed 1 star for maximum incandescent rating and only one switch to control both bulbsIt's a personal preference thing!Check out my "customer image"

Just sits on top
It works fine. I just wish it fit on, or locked into place on top of the Exo-terra tanks. I bought these for my 18x18x18 tanks.

Awesome Product
I have a "5 Gal Repitat Reptile Habitat" that I house my young Snake in. This light canopy fits great on top. The only thing I noticed, and this is why i didnt give it 5 stars, is that it is not level. There are 3 small pillars that allow it to lock in place when using it with the exo terra terrariums. You can sort of see these in the picture. The lack of a forth one makes it uneven on a flat surface. You can do as I did and just put a adhesive chair leg pad on it and that solves the problem, I show you this in the picture I added. But be aware that it is not level if you need it to be.Also in the description it says "Use with Exo Terra compact fluorescent (max 26W) or incandescent (max 40W) light bulbs".But on the box and in the manual it says incandescent (MAX 25W). Just something to be aware of if your using incandescent bulbs.I don't think it mentions this in the description either but this unit can not be used with a dimmer. It states this in the manual that comes with it. I guess a dimmer can cause it to fail and burn up or something.Great Canopy tho if you have a small Terrarium.

Hard to find hood
I had a tank previously housing a baby snake that I turned into a small bioactive terrarium for some young dart frogs. I needed to find this hook but this particular size seemed hard to find on all the normal pet supply sites. Glad I found it here, it works great. I used a combo of bulbs for light and also plant growth. I think two of them might even fit over the whole top if one wanted to do that. I just sometimes move it to the front so the plants in the front of the tank benefit from the light as well.

Good Cause it Fits
This fixture fits perfectly into one of the vent slots on top of my vision cage so it provides a great overhead light. One of the inner parts (don't know what it's called) broke soon after arriving and I don't know how I did it so it's pretty safe to say it's a fragile piece of equipment despite the sturdy look. *LASTLY*, the manufacturer says only to use their over priced CFL bulbs for this fixture. Same light bulb as any other as far as I can tell...just has the company name and logo on it...and oh btw, that bulb burned out a week after I got the fixture so I've been using a regular Walmart one with no issues...go figure. Over all good product.

Great Gecko Light!
I bought this to use for my crested gecko. Works great! Came packaged very well and undamaged. It is the smallest one and only fits one bulb. I use it on an Exo Terra 18x18x18. It is smaller than the terrarium but still works perfect. I use a UVB bulb and it has not malfunctioned or harmed the bulb. It lights up the tank so I can see inside and is a great compact size if you have your terrarium on shelving. I have mine set up on a timer and it works great. There is a manual button that you can turn on and off if you wish to do so that way. Would highly recommend for small terrariums.

Works great, one cord
I shopped around a lot before settling on this light fixture. Previously I had not needed one because my enclosure was all glass, but my new one is wood and doesn't allow much light in from the room around it. Since I am using it for a gecko, there was no need to control the two bulbs seperately (as there could be with other animals), so this is perfect. It only takes up one socket, and it works great on my timer. I used a regular home-use LED bulb on one side and a ReptiSun 2.0 on the other for enrichment. They light up my new enclosure great.

Amerikanischer Netzstecker
