Hi, I posted this in 2012 but it is worth reposting, as I had the exact same experience and did a little research and came up with this:(from 2012 post): "Wedgwood/Waterford/Royal Doulton (WWRD) went into receivership in 2002 or so and was purchased by a group, KPS Capital Partners in New York. They closed down all manufacturing in Stoke-On-Trent, England and moved production to Indonesia. These products still bear the stamp "Wedgwood, England 1759" but are made in Indonesia. Waterford crystal isn't made in Ireland anymore, either. In fact, Wedgwood keeps a storefront open in Stoke-on-Trent and only a few pieces of "artist" signed pieces are made and showcased there. It is very sad. I have collected both the china and crystal for years and now will not buy additional pieces to replace or supplement either collection.I don't know if this remains true in 2015, or if they have relocated production once again, but as of 2012 all Wedgwood - with the noted exeptions - was being produced in Indonesia.

Q: how is it dish washer safe if it has gold on it

The company uses a special technique which makes the china dishwasher safe. However, special care should be used when washing them in the dishwasher. Wash on the china cycle, and use a mild detergent which is not lemon-based. Let the dishes cool in the dishwasher when they are dry- do not touch them when it is still hot.

Q: Are these microwave safe?

I remember when reading the description that they were microwave and dishwasher safe. I haven't tried by myself.
