Boxer Adhesives Peel and Stick Vinyl Plastic Pool Patch

After 3 other patch attempts with supplies from the hardware store and left over pool supplies, nothing seemed to seal the 1.5" tear (not hole, just a line tear) in the sidewall of my pool. as a final effort I bought these patches, for the price it was worth it to try and save a $400 pool that would now cost $700 to replace. I cleaned all the extra residue from the previous patches, and scrubbed the surface for good measure, rounded the edges and slapped it on WHILE the pool was refilling, used an old gift card to work out the bubbles and the leak stopped, I monitored it for about 30 minutes checking every 5 to make sure it didn't lift and nothing, patch stayed in place. found 3 more small pinhole leaks in the floor of the liner, patched them no problem, then I got a little crazy and tried to patch a 6" diameter hole for the original water filter/pump/skimmer set up AND IT WORKED! The pump housing was leaking so I figured id get rid of it and try to patch it up since I'm running a sand filter anyway, I layered the patches plus some residual pieces from the other patches and it actually sealed right up, for now I have a port hole window but Ill probably refine the repair later and make it as seamless as possible. I am not easily impressed and do not hand out 5 star reviews often at all, but these little patches are simple, easy, and work better than $30 worth of crap from the hardware store that claims to do the same thing. I'll update this review with pictures and progress. EDIT: So the pool didnt last long enough to get pictures of the repairs, more pinholes starting popping up in the floor and eventually made their way to the seam and the pool exploded overnight, woke up to an empty pool but since FL was in drought conditions when it happened, the ground soaked up all 6000 gallons. the big hole from the original filter I patched only leaked slightly which was amazing considering it was never designed to do that in the first place, before I could fix it the seam let go. the other repairs were stable, a couple patches started to peel at the edges but that may have been lack of prep on my part since the patches I took my time with laid flat and held strong. worth it for minor repairs but if youre patching within 3"-4" of a seam beware, these will not patch a seam, nothing can patch a seam, and once it goes it goes BIG

It worked for my pool floats as long as they wasn’t busted at the seams. But when adding to my pool I had to buy some adhesive because the patches wouldn’t stay in place otherwise.

I bought this in April of 2025. Went to use it yesterday and there's zero adhesive on it any longer. I only used it for a few small patches which seem to be holding up but now it won't stick to anything. Looking for a better product

I had 2 different tears in my vinyl liner, one that was above the water level and one that spanned the water level. The pool patch that I placed over the tear that was above the water level stuck just fine. I squeezed out the air bubbles and kind of held it in place for about 1-2 minutes. 2 months later, that patch is strong and practically invisible. The 2nd tear was one that was about 50% above the water line and 50% below. In retrospect, I should have drained the pool to below the tear line and applied the patch. Trying to apply the patch underwater is impossible. It just will not stick no matter how much credit card squeegee-ing I do, or trying to hold it in place with my hands. I literally sat next to the pool applying pressure to the edge of the patch that was underwater for 30 minutes and within 2 days, the section that was underwater was lifting from the surface and the patch itself was yellowing. I've since purchased a different underwater patch that comes with a rubber cement type applicator and that has given me the underwater fix I need. In summary, I'd recommend you use the product for repairing tears/holes that are above the water line but cannot recommend it for fixes that are required below the water line.

Found 3 quarter sized holes in the base of my pool right at the ladder. I have used the glue repair in the past and frankly they are hard to deal with, especially at the bottom of the pool. I was super worried when i peeled this off and it seemed to barely be sticky. Once i swam down and applied them to the holes, they stuck very well. I just made sure to knuckle them hard to get any air pockets out of them. They lasted all year long, and not once were they a problem. As a matter of the fact the only issue I have seen is they discolor a bit - a yellowish - but I am trying to stop a hole, not paint a Picasso. If you need to stop a leak, these are easy and great. If you want them to make the hole vanish from vision you may want to try and get a matching patch to your liner. But these do the job with no mess glue to mess around with

We just bought a house with an inground pool with a vinyl liner that was severely neglected for years. The liner was out of the tract and had become brittle/stiff, not able to pull it back in without really heating it up and making it pliable. We used a heat gun - very cautiously. It worked, but in the process we made 2 holes in the liner (above the water line) and we really didn't want to replace the liner mid-season. So I purchased this product and It worked great for my needs. I cut the patches to go beyond the holes about 3/4 inch - applied them to a clean area on a nice warm day, and they held great. I also used a piece of blue vinyl from our solar cover to put behind the liner at the patch site to kind of camouflage the damage site a bit - that helped as well. I read the negative reviews on this item, and the one thing that crossed my mind was that I would not try to apply this on a vinyl item BEFORE inflating it or filling it. It doesn't have the same stretch as thin vinyl like from a kiddie pool or a float, and if you inflate or fill it after application the thin vinyl will stretch before the patch and it's probably going to give or if it doesn't, might rip the thinner vinyl around the patch. Hope that helps, from someone who doesn't appreciate all the fake reviews and BS products that are littering Amazon as of late. This one is a good one if you use it with forethought.

ORIGINAL REVIEW (updated review at the bottom!): So I had a few small holes from rocks puncturing my liner on the bottom of my pool. I told my husband there is no way I am draining 7500 gallons of water to patch them, so I found these which can be used underwater. First piece of advice before I go on....HAVE A HELPER!! Find someone you TRUST who can hold your legs underwater (pretty much dunk you, lol). Obviously, you know the laws of gravity and it is extremely hard to put these patches on if you need to put your head underwater (especially the floor....and my pool is only 4 feet deep!). My husband thoroughly enjoyed dunking me under. Fun times. Anyways....it took SEVERAL tries (my own fault) but I managed to get all 3 holes patched. The good thing is THESE DO WORK!! You have to really press them hard, though, which can be difficult if you need to go underwater. Another piece of advice, WEAR GOGGLES! It makes everything much easier to see. These are strong and have held up great even with frequent brushing and running my robot vacuum daily. The bad....they TURN YELLOW and are super obvious if used underwater (especially if your water is crystal clear). My pool is sparkling clean and I made sure to do a good brushing before applying these. I test my water daily and keep my water balanced, so I definitely don’t have a dirty pool, LOL. The yellow discoloration is from the chlorine. The edges are also starting the curl up a little (after 2 weeks or so) despite them being perfectly flat before. Brushing, vacuuming, and some heavy doses of chlorine after rain storms could have caused this. The patches only stayed clear for a few days before the discoloration slowly began. Despite the cons, THEY STILL WORK!! They ain’t pretty by any means, but they work and I am no longer adding almost a half-inch of hose water daily due to the slow leaks. My pool is an Intex Ultra Frame 18’ x 52” that I leave up year-round but is by no means my “permanent” pool (coming spring 2021....woohoo!) so I don’t really care about the ugly appearance but I would not use these if I had a nice, expensive liner. They may be clear at first, but they discolor very quickly. I would recommend getting a quality patch kit that have the same pattern as your pool liner. My pool looks hideous but my water bill makes up for it, I guess. 9/30/20 UPDATE!!: The photos were taken and posted on 9/5/20. They were starting to turn yellow and curl up at the sides, as you can see. It is now 9/30 and one of the patches completely ripped off today. The other 2 are still intact and hanging on despite daily brushing and vacuuming, but they are yellow and looking a bit worse than last time. I do not see them holding up for much longer. If I didn’t brush, vacuum, and chlorinate my pool as much as I do, these would probably be in much better shape but the yellow is unavoidable and quite an eyesore. They do work well until they peel off. The only reason I am giving them 2 stars is because they were pretty cheap and they do work until you can find a longer-lasting (and aesthetically pleasing) solution. They still pretty much look like the photos (same shade of yellow but are definitely curling up more and more and living on borrowed time). Keep your expectations reasonable if you are using these on the BOTTOM of your pool, especially.
