## Description

Windham Hill's Guitar Sampler culls highlights from their vast catalog of contemporary instrumental guitarists, providing a good introduction to the atmospheric stylings of musicians like Peter Maunu, Andrew York and David Cullen.

Review: Nostalgia for me! Beautiful music! - I purchased all of my Windham Hill records for nostalgia purposes. It brings me back to Maine in the fall and winter. Just wonderful music!
Review: Great Collection of Guitarists - At first glance, it seems odd that Windham Hill offered a sample of its guitar music without anything by Will Ackerman who helped found that iconic record label. However, even without Ackerman, this is a nice introduction to Windham Hill and its talented stable of artists. The album starts off on a strong note with the upbeat “On the Way” by David Cullen. Eric Tingstad is up next with a fine take on “Prelude from the Bridal Suite” followed by Danny Heines who shows off his incredible talents on “Sun and Water.” The always welcome John Doan brings out the harp guitar for “Night Crossing” before James Gordon offers the haunting “No City Lights.” Chris Proctor takes the album to the halfway point with the lovely “Emperor’s Choice.” Edward Gerhard is up next with the gentle “Handing Down” followed by “Blue Ridge," a hidden gem from Bruce BecVar. Bill Mize’s “Silverplume Waltz” is a fine acoustic piece while Andrew York is in great form with “Andecy.” Peter Maunu wraps things up on a nice note with “Cheyenne.” Even without Ackerman--and his absence does seem a little odd--this is a great offering from Windham Hill with no misfires and some really solid work across the board. It’s a great introduction to these talented guitarists and to Windham Hill.
