Got a few of these for neighbors, as a holiday gift. Evey single one wanted to know where I got them, or what they were called. One neighbor bought a few more for herself and co-workers. I grew up in Japan and these were everywhere. In the west you have the larger set-up for the door, whereas this one is non invasive, easy to attach, sounds almost exact with a hint of Zen. Placement depends on the door, some people like it at the top of the door parallel to the doorknob, a more subtle sound is closer to the hinges. It's been a good way to start my arrival home with a chill sound of sanctuary.

Nicely built. Very decorative with a pleasing sound. They make nice house warming gifts.

We have a metal front door. This bell is perfect with magnet. Makes a pleasant “ding” when door is opened or closed.

I was so disappointed that our business door, which I thought was metal, would not accept these magnets. I had to use the double stick tape provided. It's a beautiful piece, but our landlord put a handicap opener on the door so it shuts slowly and doesn't "ring" very loudly. I wish I would have placed it on our back door even though I really need it up front for the customers coming in. I would say test your door first with a magnet to see if the stick! Wish I would have thought of it.

Got this for a sliding patio door that leads outside. If you open that door "very slowly", the bell won't ring. This is in comparison to a whole-house "alarm system chirp" that is guaranteed to happen whenever the contact sensor is broken.I can't really hold that against the product though... we bought this as a simple, "no-battery" notification that someone has gone in/out and that the door might be open, and for that purpose it looks good and works well.Well enough that I'm holding out for them to go on sale again so I can get one for the front door.About this "shopkeeper bell" specifically: wood is nice, staining is nice, magnets presumably work pretty well, size is "reasonable" for an exterior door. I used my own stickum (some "very thick" 3m double-sided clear gel tape), but I have no reason to doubt the included sticky strip.

The bell is high quality and the wood around it is gorgeous

This is at the entrance of a library and the ring is subtle yet alerting. Perfect for our setting. Design is pretty and installation is so easy.
