Makes checking Nitrate level so much easier! No more trying to read the color chart and trying to figure out the difference between 40 and 80 or if the light you’re reading it in is good or is the light in the other room correct. It gives you an actual number!! You know exactly what your nitrate level is! It’s accurate too. I tested it against two different test kits and it matched what both of them said, so I trust it. Only negative is it takes about ten minutes total to run the test, start to finish, seven of the minutes is just you sitting there waiting on it to analyze the sample and give you the result. Also, it doesn’t beep when it’s finished and if you wait too long it will just shut off and you lose your reading. So be sure to set a timer so you’re there when the seven minutes is up.Some people complain about the powder packets being difficult to handle. I think they’re pretty easy. My technique is to just snip off the corner, then stick the tip of the scissors in to widen or open up the hole I just made. The digital reader and getting a precise measure is awesome. Definitely better than drops of test strips. However, you need to add malic acid to the solution and shake for 2 minutes. First off the checker doesn't come with very many packets. I had to order them online at 2 dollars a packet. Most frustrating of all is that the packets they come in make using the device extremely irritating. The powder is usually caked in a corner and nearly impossible to pour into the vile without spilling. Then you end up wasting 2 dollars because you need to start all over again. Thought this would be easy and convenient. If you are doing this because you are trying to get a more accurate reading. Go for it. But if you think the process will be easier than strips or drops then stay away. Drops are easier IMO because they go into your vial easily. The powder makes this suck.
