Twentieth Century Wild Life Artists

A fabulous collection of artists
Nicholas Hammond has done a fantastic job with this book. The format is excellent. Part One is an introduction to Wildlife Art and is broken down into 4 sections1. Wildlife and Art2. The Background to Today's Wildlife Art3. Wildlife Painting in the Twentieth Century4. Illustrations for IdentificationThese subjects are covered superbly by the author, who is very knowledgeable and has a vast experience to call upon. I'm not an artist, but I do love wildlife art and I found it all very interesting.Part Two is devoted to the artists. There are over 40 artists covered including my favourites, Lars Jonsson and Charles Tunnicliffe, The latter's pictures take me back to my childhood. Each artist is thoroughly covered, with their picture at the top of the page. There then follows a well written and inciteful run down on the artist and around this the text is accompanied by a number of their paintings. These illustrations are beautiful and the book can be thumbed through just to view them. I note that there is a slight leaning towards illustrations of birds, but then Nicholas Hammond was the editor of 'Birds' for 19 years. This is a lovely book and although perhaps a bit dated still deserves a place in any wildlife enthusiasts bookshelf.

Twentieth Century Wildlife artists
This collection of art work and edited by Nicholas Hammond is a glimpse of the early and present day wildlife artists. A very good compilation with good amount of reading material. Though the book is unusually tall, it indeed stands tall in the book shelf as a unique book on wildlife art! A great collection.
