Being admirers of the fully balanced transformerless circuits found in highly acclaimed recording consoles, Black Lion Audio chose to use a similar topology. They began with a high-speed input stage that would pick up lots of detail and nuance, and then followed it with a high current output stage. Circuit headroom is plentiful, and the input stage is very difficult to clip. Because of its fully balanced design, it can handle large input signals with ease.Black lion Audio also likes classic transformer-based designs because of the characteristic they lend to the audio signal. Because of this, they added a 600-ohm M-6 silicon steel output transformer to give the audio a thick quality that's reminiscent of a prized vintage preamp. It's the best of both worlds in their opinion. The Auteur preamp is dual channel and features phase, +48vdc phantom power, and 10dB output signal pad.Elements of the Auteur's chassis and presentation are extremely simple, with a minimum of the fluff and promotion that tends to drive up the cost of equipment in our industry. It's housed in a 1U high 1/2-rack space chassis, and can be linked together with a second Auteur to fill up a full rack space. If you're looking for eye candy and name recognition to dominate your equipment list, this probably isn't the preamp for you. On the other hand, if you're looking for the sort of performance normally associated with high-end designs but need to acquire it at a modest price, this mic preamp will make a wise and affordable investment for your home or project studio.Get your Black Lion Audio Auteur 2-Channel Microphone Preamp today from Sam Ash Direct and enjoy the confidence that comes from fast, free shipping, the guaranteed lowest price and our 45/60-day return/price protection policy.

Simple Design, Amazing Sound
The Black Lion Audio Auteur is a foolproof, simple as milk mic preamp. It really is as easy as plugging in a microphone and recording. Nevertheless, for such a simple piece of equipment, the clarity of sound is absolutely impeccable. There is no presence of buzzing, ringing or clipping in your recordings. The sound is clean with some warmth, and feels overall balanced. That being said, this preamp seems to work better with condenser microphones than with dynamic microphones. The sound does come across somewhat flat and dull with dynamic mics, but still sounds pretty good; condenser mics do come alive with the Auteur. Furthermore, the thing is built like a tank, so it will be a long-lasting piece of equipment.Considering that the simplicity of design and a decent price, this is really one of the best investments you can make when it comes to a microphone preamp. Black Lion Audio may not be the biggest name in the music business, but the quality of its products speaks volumes. Highly recommended!

The Auteur is a work of art!
Incredibly awesome preamp. I have worked on Harrison MR-3/MR-4 consoles, SSL, Focusrite.... a lot of the big boy consoles.I worked on the semi-pro consoles like Tascam, Mackie, A&H. I have used a lot of outboard preamps as well, especially the 500 series rack type. This preamp keeps up with all of the warmer preamps I have ever used. It has depth without changing the fundamental character of your favorite mic on whatever the source material. Using 18 different mics from a Neumann U-89i to a Beyer M-160 to a Shure SM-57, I never found myself saying that I wished I used a different preamp with a particular mic for this project where I used this mic pre.The Auteur has a clean audio path without being cold or resorting to starved plate tubes to try and "warm" up a signal path. BLA's preamp is not a compromise like the M-Audio interface or Focusrite low end interface mic preamps are.If you are on the fence about buying this preamp, I can totally recommend you buy it.
