Phenomenal Phenomenal book for teens and adults
I have Luvvie Ajayi Jones' Professional Troublemaker so I couldn't wait to get his book for the young people in my life. It did not disappoint! Even as an adult, it was hard to put the book down once I started reading it and I bought the audio book to accompany it. I have annotations throughout the book to outline portions that I refer to repeatedly. I feel so strongly about this book that I bought a bunch of copies to gift to teens in my community. My only regret is that I did not have this book as a teen. Luvvie speaks in a language that teens can easily connect with. She provides realistic and empowering lessons that make you feel like you have the power to conquer the world. This is a great gift that keeps on giving. I highly recommend it for every young person regardless of race, class or economic background. It is well worth it.

Wish I'd had this to read when I was a teen
I was thinking of buying this for my soon to be high school niece who is figuring out who she is. She's ready to take on the world but I see her holding back her words sometimes. I was hoping this would help her in bringing her words to light so I decided to read it for myself first. I was daunted by the only review I found here so far (the book was just released so I'm sure there will soon be more measured and fair reviews.) I could not disagree more with the other reviewier about the book and its author. The stories here are meant to illustrate how Luvvie indeed knows what she's talking about when she gives advice. Her experience is so relevant, and the book is full of great advice! In fact, I am in the middle of reading how to have a difficult conversation with a friend or loved one and the steps are broken down with so much thought! Communication is the key to everything and the sooner in life this skill is learned, the easier to navigate all of the different personality types one crosses paths with throughout a lifetime. There is no place better to sharpen this skill than in high school. If I'd had the skills to talk to my "superiors" during these formative years, I would have not been too intimidated to stick up for myself which would have resulted in a much more favorable outcome. It is refreshing to read the voice of a woman who knows her worth and isn't afraid to talk about it. I take this opportunity to quote the author from the book, "We must honor ourselves in a world that doesn't want us to, and we will wait for nobody's permission." Thank Goodness she had the courage and self worth to share it with others. I am only in the middle of the book but I couldn't let the other review stand here alone and mislead folks. I applaud Luvvie Ajayi Jones and her latest book!
