The Chumash: The Past and Present of California's Seashell People (American Indian Life)

Excellent----informative and attractive book on Chumash
Probably the best juvenile book on the Chumash in print now---up-to-date (2017) about their history and culture, with many interesting facts and lovely, attention-provoking illustrations. Author used a university professor as consultant. The book respects the thousands of years of their presence in coastal California and honestly describes their harsh life in the missions and persecutions by Gold-Rush settlers. And it includes a useful discussion of Chumash lives today as well, e,g,, traditions and connection to nature. Has nice accessories, like a timeline, glossary, and index. (Book is part of a series on native Americans, with at least 7 other tribal books like on the Sioux, Cherokee now in print.) As a informed adult, even I learned some useful and interesting facts, so yes, get it and read it---even if you are a grownup!

Do not buy this junk. Seek other books on the topic with better information.
It lacks original thought. This data could have been copied from a lot of other publications on this topic. Junk created to make a few dollars at the buyer's expense. Why Amazon would support and markets this garbage, I can not understand.
