Is this safe if want to use to roast marshmallows?

Yes it is. The glass is inert without any coatings or anything toxic on it. Be careful that the marshmallows don't touch the glass, or pieces of the mashmallows don't fall into the glass. If they do you can pick out the pieces with marshmallow stuck to them the next day after it cools down.

How many 10 pound jars are needed for a 16x16 fire pit

The amount of glass needed will depend on how deep your fire pit is. We would recommend starting with 2 of our 10 lb. jars and seeing how much coverage that gives you.
