The Wager of a Lady (The Beautiful Barringtons Book 4)

Beautifully written
The thing with introducing the growing love between characters in previous books means when we finally read their story we already have an expectation on what we think should happen. From the moment Leo was introduced into the stories I wanted to read more about him. A handsome rogue, dangerous and captivating I just knew he would be my fav hero and he was.I loved George and Leo’s story, so much of what happened in previous books made sense and the story came together beautifully. You can feel the challenges, the pain and worry of both characters. Understand their actions and the way they deal with each other because of what they have experienced.I knew they would be my favourite couple and they was, this book is a must read!5/5 chemistry between the two as well as 5/5 read 😍 absolute perfect ending.Thank You Kathleen Ayers for bringing alive Leo and George for us ❤️

Pleasant but not as good as previous books
The illegitimate son of a duke, Leo Murphy has carved out a life for himself as the owner of a gambling hell. He’s pretty much seen it all, but even he wasn’t prepared for Georgina to burst into his life. Georgina is married to a much older man who has no interest in her, and she finds herself drawn to Leo, but he is clear that there is no future for them.I like this series and this author, but I just didn’t take to this book as well as I did with the others. I think the problem was that I just didn’t like either Georgina or Leo very much. Regardless of his background, Leo’s behaviour was unattractive throughout, and I found Georgina to be irritating. We didn’t see much of the supporting characters in this book either. The book was a pleasant read, but it just didn’t grab my attention like previous books.

Another goodie!
This is #4 of the series which I have loved and I was eagerly awaiting this story.Leo is such a delicious rake (and beautifully drawn) with all the insecurities of a bastard son of the Duke of Averell. He definitely meets his match with Georgiana, an American heiress, who is forced to marry the elderly Lord Masterson due to bad behaviour. The chemistry between Leo and Georgie is sizzling from start to finish and their adventure in New York is an absolute page Turner; I couldn't read it fast enough.Although this wasn't my favourite of the series, I still wait in anticipation of this author's next work.

Beautiful wager
Before I start this review, I have to say that I have a slight obsession with The Beautiful Barrington’s and have eagerly awaited the next instalment. This, the fourth book in the series, did not disappoint. We get a feeling for how this story will pan out from the other books in the series, whereby they hint at what can be expected for Leo and Georgina but what actually happens far exceeded my expectations.Georgina, forced to wed Lord Masterson by her parents, has a rebellious streak from the outset with her desire for drinking bourbon and visiting gaming hells; namely that of Elysium where the owner, our Hero - Leo Murphy, bastard son of the Duke of Averell - spends his time avenging his past and lusting after Lord Masterson’s young bride who he is determined to have despite the consequences. A wager which seems too good to be true for Leo, lands in his lap in the most fortunate way and results in a night of unbridled passion between the pair.I didn’t think I would initially take to liking Georgina as, from Ayres other novels in the series I feel she was portrayed as someone who was far too outlandish, self-obsessed and came across as someone who was almost unlikeable. However, the more this story unravelled the more it made sense to me why she acted in such a way. Her parents, who shouldn’t really call themselves such, had abandoned her to her fate with an older man who generally couldn’t have cared less about her wellbeing. Likewise, I felt Leo in the other books was portrayed as a sulky teenager, even though he was a fully-grown man who should just grow up considering he’d spent the better part of book 1 telling his brother to do just that.Overall, I literally could not put this book down and cannot wait for the next one in the series. The writing just flows off the pages and I laughed and cried with the characters. The Wager of a Lady has everything I need to get my fix in an Historical Romance novel; love, steam, a brilliantly unputdownable storyline and of course a HEA.*I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest review.
