ICY DOCK Tool-Less Triple 3 Bay 2.5 to 3.5 Hard Drive SSD Mounting Bracket Kit Adapter | EZ-FIT Trio MB610SP

In a recent (re)build of computers in the household we decided to have the boot drive available externally using a docking system, however in two of the computers it wasn't possible and so we needed another option. The TRIO from ICY DOCK provides that option by allowing the boot drive and others to be more easily accessible. In the mini ITX system, a pair of screws removes the covers to the case and disconnecting the SATA DATA/POWER cables and squeezing two tabs lets us pull the boot drive out so that we can duplicate it and then put it back in. In fact we can do this with all 3 drives if we wanted to. Going into this it was readily apparent that we'd need straight (non-angled) DATA and POWER cables. This assembly has the same physical dimensions as a single 3.5 inch hard drive in our mini ITX computer case we were able to tuck the excess cables under the assembly. The instructions were clear, that is remove the bar across the guides you wished to use (in our case, all three came off), attach the drives to the guide insuring the black plastic studs entered into each of the drives side screw holes, and slide the drive into the frame (there is a slight click when you have fully pushed the guide/drive into the frame). Mount the assembly to the computer and lastly hook up the DATA and POWER cables. We found it best to make a backup of the boot drive using a USB duplicator and to store it along with license information in a separate folder for each PC. We like to make backups of the boot drive at least twice a year or if there is a significant change. This item, the ICY DOCK TRIO saved us a lot of time and money. It's worth it. I want to take off 1/2 of a star for the slightly too-loose-tolerances for the trays, but I doubt it'll be a problem and I'm being picky. Holds 3, 7mm drives, albeit HDD, SSHD, SSD. for cost vs performance, I'm using 3, 2 TB Firecuda drives for each of these triples. Forgot to factor in the need for special cables due to clearances, but this adapter slips into a standard, 3.5" tray. Even ones designed for quick release. The "ambidextrous" design or making the trays non-polar so they can go in "up-side down" or "right side up" is a smart move making this adapter versatile and highly pragmatic. 2 of these are immediately going into my Entho Evolv mini-ITX case that supports 3, 3.5" drives. I'm using their dual 2.5" adapter in place of their single 2.5" tray. This allows me to expand a 4-drive case to being an 11-drive case. Perfect for a discrete file server when combined with a LSI00415.

Neat peoduxt, does what it says. I like that I can fit an entire 6 disk raid 10 or 50 array into two standard hdd bays. It's great for space savings and makes cabling more streamlined. Although for power, I would recommend getting a 2 or 3 way sata/molex to sata adapter, since the stiff wired of my pay had a hard time making such a steep curve from one SSD to the next adjacent SSD.

Better than expected and tool less to boot.

Installation was easy. These docks are a great way to install several SSDs into a 3.5 HDD space. I've got two triple docks and have a few SSDs setup in RAID configuration for redundancy. Quality product that works as expected.

Great product overall. The reason I purchase this product because my case it's limited Sata 4 drives. But my motherboard supports 10 Sata drives so these are perfect if you want to create a array of Raid or individual storage drive. You can easily answer either 3 2.5 SSD drives or 3 2.5 hard drives. And the great thing about them is you can attach him in a 3.5 hard drive space area.

I thought this was a great product concept, an easy way to save some space and have 3 SSD's in one regular sized harddrive bay. But if you have right angle sata cables, you'll need to switch out and use flat sata cables.

really nice product for what it is. Wish there was an all metal version that would fit mount in a 2.5" (bottom screw) installation. This works really well in a 3.5" bay, which is as intended. Specifically, I'd like to be able to mount 6x 2.5" SSD's in a small SuperMicro Case that can normally mount 2 or 4 (with 2 supermicro cages) 2.5" HDD/SSDs. The case can alternatively hold 2x3.5" hdds, and this works well for that, but we loose the ability to use the expansion slot completely. Also, I suspect that a metal cage would be better for heat dissipation from the installed drives. A simple bent metal, 3x7mm drive cage would be wonderful, even if that meant losing hot swap capability. a 1mm (20 Ga) thick sheet metal, properly cut drilled and bent would work great! Wish I had the metal shop and skills to build it myself!
