Does this restore black clothes that have been faded due to washing

No. Perwoll only makes an effort not to fade your black clothes. To restore color, you must re-dye them.

Does this prevent soap residue left on dark clothes after washing?

I don't have a problem with residue left on clothes. This is a great product! It is milky white I'm color but truly preserves darks. I've used it for over 10 years and swear by it?

Does it help to have the faded black back ?

It keeps dark colors dark. Not sure once they are faded if you can get them black again. I have used a long time and like a lot.
