A dark coming-of-age tale where slice-of-life slices back. This is Punpun Onodera’s coming-of-age story. His parents’ marriage is falling apart. Fair warning: this series is not for everyone, it deals with heavy themes including depression and trauma, but it handles them with real care and nuance. Where the story really deepens — dark, brilliant manga
Volume 5 is where Goodnight Punpun really starts to hit its emotional stride. The story gets noticeably darker and more introspective, which I think is exactly what long-time readers are hoping for. Asano's artwork continues to be outstanding — his paneling and use of negative space are genuinely unlike anything else in manga. It has since become my favorite manga ever
I've read Oyaumi Punpun online years before. It has since become my favorite manga ever. Inio Asano's art is beautifully detailed and weirdly "real". And of course, the story. The reason I love it so much is how much I can connect with almost all of the characters. I've been going through life not knowing where to go or what to do next. That feeling of being lost, unsure of the future - Inio captures that in this story. I can't wait to purchase volumes 6 to 7.
