Is this aluminium top steel bottom?

Yes the Brikka Induction has a stainless steel bottom suitable for all heat sources & Aluminium pot.

I have purchased this and even following instructions, using Bialetti coffee. It always seems to go crazy and boil over, no crema. Any ideas?

Hi, My technique is to boil some water and add 150ml to the base of the brikka. Insert the coffee holder and add 25grams of medium ground coffee. Don't pat it down too hard, just enough to fit it in. Then make sure the edges are clean before screwing on the lid. Then the key part is to place it on a medium to medium-low heat and wait about 10mins. It's not quick but the coffee comes out great. That should give you 2-3 espresso shots. I then add some hot water to the espresso to make an americano. Best I've made at home so far!

Is this meant to have a hole in the centre of the lid? My previous smaller version doesn’t. Thanks.

Yes, for no obvious reason. You can watch progress without lifting the lid. Or listen, like you would without a hole.
