As a little girl in 80’s NYC, I always had a fondness for street art, looking at subway cars and trying to decipher what were on walls. In high school, I love Basquiat’s primitive childlike art. I like to think had I been fortunate to meet him, he’d tell me to F what my parents & teachers thought of “perfection” and to just express myself!! I still look at his work and it helps me let go of the “perfection” that has been drilled in my head that keeps me moving forward in life.I will say I’ve had some friends confuse him for JayZ cause of the hair (annoying) but it does open the perfect opportunity to discuss him!!
